Organisation Name: KEHATI (The Biodiversity Conservation Trust Fund) Position: Research and Policy Development Intern
Project objective / key areas One of Kehati’s sister agencies, TFC Sumatra, undertakes research of engagement: to determine funding and policy priorities for the protection of a number of endangered Indonesian species including rhinoceroses, elephants, tigers. The agency develops position papers and policy documents both to guide their own activities and to advise corporate donors and government on the urgency of protecting certain species. Likely tasks / description of Your role with TFC Sumatra may include: role: Research on the effectiveness of current or previous conservation efforts Research into different sectors’ (government, NGO, private) efforts towards conservation Contributing to position papers that influence KEHATI’s/TFC Sumatra’s conservation action priorities. Output required by intern: The tangible output of the work undertaken during this internship will likely include report writing, research papers, summaries, analysis documents and other general administrative support within the program.
Intangible output will most likely include the attendance of meetings, relevant events, conferences and online research, as well as the potential to assist researchers in field work. Expected work hours: 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday – Friday, with some flexibility Special requirements of the N/A intern security clearances, etc.): Wage: Unpaid but Kehati may cover your expenses for field trips. Dress Required: Smart casual. Jeans are OK but generally should be accompanied by a collared or work shirt. You should wear pants instead of shorts and either shoes or sandals with closed toes and a strap around the heel. You should also have some more formal business attire for meetings. Batik is considered formalwear in Indonesia and can be found cheaply in various malls across Jakarta. Requirements for intern Majors: Flexible, but ideal candidates would have studied/ be currently studying Environment, Social Research, Public Policy, Journalism or International Relations. Language abilities: Only English is required, however Indonesian skills would be useful and allow you to be involved with more complex tasks. Other: You should have a genuine interest in innovative approaches to conservation. You should learn as much as you can about Kehati and the activities they are involved in, which you will be required to demonstrate during a Skype Interview. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop to this internship.
