2016-2017 Wilmot PTO General Board Meeting November 8, 2016

Correspondence/Community News Family News: None Staff/School News: None Kudos A.1. Disability Awareness Week: successful week Mrs. Buch: discussed ways to improve the week (i.e. new activities), have received positive feedback regarding the week A.2. Potbelly Eat n earn: $426 earned A.3. Philanthropy club: $900 raised for Ronald McDonald house A.4. Pumpkin decorating fundraiser: kids liked having charities relatable to them. 5. Movie Night: ran smoothly/successful

Presidents’ Report Presidents’ Council met on Tuesday October 25th: A lot of information/discussions pertaining to Jr. High: -Washington DC trip. Trip is outsourced. Problems with kids with allergies and flights this year. -Standard based grading: Jr. High was focus. Parents felt Jr. High students should have letter grades. Discussed Calendar for 17/18 school year. -Possibly do away with current holidays (i.e. Columbus day, Pulaski Day, Veterans Day, Presidents Day)? -Wednesday early release is working.

Principal’s Report Staff/School News: - School wide vote to name our mascot today. - Halloween went well. Pumpkin fundraiser went well. Checking in was successful (regarding pre check). -December events: -5th grade music concert 9:55am 6:30pm Dec 8, art 6pm -Hour of code: nation wide event: week of Dec 5. Possible -Holiday shop (Dec 12-14) -2 assembly: Choriliers & PAWs assembly -3-5th graders: student engagement survey. Will receive feedback from upper grade student council members and develop action plans - MAP testing. Dec 5-end of school year -Movie night: went well. 3 teachers, 5th grade student ambassadors – wore safety vests/took job seriously. In the future k-3 only? Kindy may be too young. 4th & 5th graders enjoy, they should have the option to attend. -Enrichment for winter since issues with Starland closing. Teachers willing to give up classrooms after school for more classrooms? -Todd Keene, police chief, Mrs. Buch, Mrs. Brett looked at parking lot. Look at opening front lot during dismissal to pull in behind front row of cars. Right turn only out of lot. Is there an option to remove median to make two lanes for entrance? Open to other ideas to relieve stress in west lot

Teacher Representative’s Report Barnes & Noble Day: teachers to sign up for one of the following: wrapping paper, craft, or reading to kids Book Clubs: traditionally done at lunch, possibility to incorporate coding club, acting club, Lego club, etc.…to give kids another outlet besides book clubs at lunch.

Treasurer’s Report - Jenn Dubinsky (not in attendance) Balance: $110,623.54

Vice-Presidents’ Reports Fundraising I - Brooke Friedman: Barnes & Nobles: Dec 3rd. Gift wrapping table will be there. Volunteer spot for parents, receiving marketing materials soon. Teachers signing up for one of 3 volunteer activities (wrapping paper, craft, reading to kids) Holiday Shop: Sign up sheet for teachers to bring in their classes is in the office Fundraising II - Jamie Agay Fun Lunch: changes to menu: brining in ROTI, Freshii, Real Urban BBQ, and Stir Crazy. Removing soft serve option, adding themed cookie Book Fair: owe them money now BINGO Night: basket themes being sent to room parents before thanksgiving to sign up. Eat and Earn: $403 from Potbelly, Chipotle 50% of all sales Nov. 17, Dec – pieros delivery Yearbook: 189 yearbooks sold Educational Enrichment - Amy Shpritz Books Clubs: 3 teachers interested in book clubs. 5th graders participate in yearbook on Wednesdays, can they find another day? Possibly Tuesday? Harry Potter room (under the stairs)? Read to Succeed Program: go out to teachers/students after thanksgiving. Due Feb 1st After School Enrichment: Mark Woolums: due to Starland situation, are there going to be more classes, may be more students Service - Jen Cohen (not in attendance) Meeting set up to discuss classroom parties with Mrs. Brett. Having a hard time with 4th and 5th grade parents volunteering Disability awareness week went well. 5th grade speakers: discussing options with Mrs. Salzer Philanthropy club: winter drive in foyer. “new” clothes/accessories also welcome Social Activities - Crissy Crane (not in attendance): None Communications - Beth Lewis Space available on website for long and short term ads General VPs - Jill Katz and Jen Golding (not in attendance) : None President Emeritus - Jodi Solovy: None

New Business Classroom parties: Jen Cohen has meeting with Mrs. Brett Possible ideas…in other schools/districts, each holiday is organized around philanthropy. Let us know any ideas
