Troop 729 Venture Crew

Philmont 2002, August 3-17

I, ______, am a member in good standing of Troop ____. This contract will establish my desire to participate in Philmont 2002 and my commitment to meet all the requirements listed below. I hereby confirm my understanding that my failure to complete this contract within the stated time period will render me ineligible for Philmont 2002.

REQUIREMENTS

1. ____ Class A Uniform ____ Health Form ____ First Class or higher ____ Swim Test

2. 13 years of age by date of arrival (August 3, 2002)

3. I will attend at least 18 scout meetings in my complete Class A uniform over the next 9 months (2 out of 4 each month, assuming one Friday a month will be a campout. If there is no campout that month, I will attend three out of the 4 meetings that month in my complete Class A uniform).

4. I will attend at least 75% of the troop campouts during the next year.

5. I will demonstrate (i) my knowledge of the following knots: Bowline, Clove Hitch (both ways), and Tautline Hitch, (ii) my ability to build a fire, and (iii) First and Second Class First Aid.

6. I will participate in 3 hours of service projects a month as arranged by the Philmont Crew. Work done with the Philmont Crew applies only to Philmont 2002 and does not apply to any troop, rank or community service as required by school. If I am unable to attend a particular project, I will inform the Crew Leader ahead of time to receive an excused absence. In the event of an excused absence, I agree to do a make up service project approved by the Crew Leader within four weeks of the original date. I will not be allowed to make up unexcused absences. I understand that I will not be allowed to make up a service project if more than one are already outstanding.

7. I will contribute $25 per month, on a timely schedule, for each of the next 12 months.

8. I will participate in all fundraising activities.

After three disciplinary warnings, I will be suspended from Philmont 2002 until the four signatories of my contract can meet and agree on how to proceed.

Page 10 of the High Adventure Guide states, “A youth or leader who desires to participate, but who is not emotionally, mentally, or physically ready for a high-adventure trek, must be so informed.” I therefore understand that my failure to display emotional maturity might jeopardize the trek and that, as a result, I may have to withdraw from Philmont 2002. I believe I am fully capable of completing my contract by the completion date. I also realize that my decision not to complete my contract reflects on my decision not to participate in Philmont 2002. By signing my contract, I acknowledge that the choice is mine and mine alone as to whether or not I will participate in Philmont 2002.
