USC History USC’s McDonald’s Swim Stadium Home of Champions

The McDonald’s Swim Stadium, the site of the 1984 Olympic and diving competition, the 1989 U.S. Long Course Nationals and the 1991 Olympic Festival swimming and diving competition, is comprised of a 50-meter open-air pool next to a 25-yard, eight-lane diving well featuring 5-, 7 1/2- and 10-meter platforms. The home facility for both the USC men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams conforms to all specifications and requirements of the International Swimming Federation (FINA). One of the unusual features of the pool is a set of movable bulkheads, one at each end of the pool. These bulkheads are riddled with tiny holes to allow the water to pass through and thus absorb some of the waves that crash into the pool ends. The bulkheads can be moved, so that the pool length can be adjusted anywhere up to 50 meters. The McDonald’s Swim Complex is located in the northwest corner honoring the legendary USC coach’s nine NCAA distance of more than 200 yards and a viewing of the USC campus, near the intersection of Championship teams, is located on the exterior angle of more than 160 degrees. A visit to the USC Children’s Hospital

The USC men’s and women’s swimming and div- ing team participated in Swim Quick Day -- a national effort to raise funds for cancer research in honor of longtime collegiate swim coach Rich- ard Quick -- with a trip to the USC Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

During a dual-meet last February, both the USC and UCLA women’s swim teams donned new swim caps that featured “Swim Quick Day.” USC and UCLA both raised funds to donate to the Swim Quick Day.

The Trojan team then visited the USC Women’s and Children’s Hospital the following day to spend time with children who are currently bat- tling illnesses.

Trojan swimmers and coaches handed out gifts, played with the children and signed autographs in the USC hospital.
