Curtis Junior High Softball Turnouts 2011

Curtis Junior High Softball Turnouts 2011 Important Information

General Overview Tryouts will be held the week of April 11th at our CJHS softball field (the upper field located near the tennis courts, CJHS baseball field, and the high school track) from 2:25-4:00. In the event of inclement weather that creates unplayable field conditions, practice will most likely be moved indoors to the CJHS gym; athletes should listen for an announcement during 6th period if this is the case.

Each day, athletes are to have their gloves, cleats, tennis shoes, and appropriate workout clothing (on cool days, long sleeves are REQUIRED). Each athlete is also encouraged to have her own bat, but it is not a requirement. All jewelry, including any facial piercings and metal hair clips/bobby pins, must be removed before the start of practice or game. Hair should be tied back with hair bands or scrunchies. Players should be dressed, at the field, and ready for practice at 2:25. Water is not available on site, so players must bring their own water bottle/sports drink to practice; sharing drinks with teammates is strongly discouraged.

During tryouts, coaches will be reviewing basic skills and rating each athlete in the areas of: throwing, fielding, hitting, base running, and knowledge of the game. In addition, attitude, coachability, and academic status will be considered in the selection process (student athletes must maintain at least a 2.00 GPA to participate in any CJHS sport).

Paperwork Completion All girls planning on turning out for softball must complete an athletic checklist, available in the student center. A current physical is required. Athletes who have already participated in a sport this year will need to transfer their permit. See Mrs. Wilson. Additionally, all players must purchase an ASB card and have no outstanding fines or fees. Paperwork needs to be turned in or permits need to be transferred no later than Friday, April 1st.

Tryouts Schedule Monday, April 11th: Mandatory meeting in room 124 to ensure eligibility, receive a tryout number, review important details, and answer questions. It is extremely important that all girls who plan on trying out for softball attend this meeting. The meeting will start promptly at 2:15 and end no later than 2:45, so please make transportation arrangements.
