MAY 21, 2014 MEETING MINUTES MAHWAH RECREATION COMMITTEE

Chairman Harry Williams called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.

Roll call was taken and members in attendance were: Andrea Dalessio, George Ervin, Nic Giancaspro, Allison Jackson, Tony Lore, David May, Danielle Migliacci and Harry Williams. Also attending was Recreation Director Dawn DaPuzzo.

The flag salute was followed by the Sunshine Law announcement. On a motion by Allison Jackson, seconded by George Ervin, the meeting minutes of April 23, 2014 were approved. All in favor, motion carried.

Old Business Garage Sale – everything went very well. Discussed possible ideas for next year like having it on Saturday and Sunday for homes, and Town Hall just on Sunday (or Saturday). We could also include a check-off list of key items on the application that can be added to the list of homes. Allison may email some ideas to those that participated and get feedback for next year. Great job, thank you everyone that helped.

New Business The Annual Fishing Contest will be Saturday, May 24 at 10:00 am. Meet at 8:30 for setup. Those helping out are Harry, Dawn, Andrea, Dave, Danielle and possibly George. Dawn has coolers. Harry purchased poles, tackle boxes, prizes, worms, etc. Andrea will get snacks, cups, name tags paper towels, etc. The DPW will clean up the area and bring tents. Need extension cords for PA system. Dawn will print forms.

Paddle Day will be Tuesday, July 8 at 5:00 pm. Andrea spoke with Ramsey Outdoor and they will bring their boats and equipment again this year, for $300.

The Senior Picnic date has been changed to Wednesday, July 9 at 12:00. Joanne will make a PO to Andrea and advertisements will be sent out. Will discuss at next month’s meeting. Movie Night will be Tuesday, July 29. We will show either “Frozen” or “The Lego Movie”. Harry will contact New Wave Cinemas to set up. We need to advertise once we decide on the movie.

Tennis – we have received many applications to enroll. The company we are hiring needs to submit their W-9 to be set up as a vendor with the town. Dave will email the info to Joanne to prepare a PO.

Soccer – In-house registration is tomorrow. Nic has changed the format this year to include 2 divisions: a competitive division for those 35 and under, and a recreation division for those 36 and up and women. This should make it safer and enjoyable for all. Still 8 teams, 4 in each division. We may have lost the shirt sponsor so we might need shirts from the town. The goals need to be brought to Continental to be checked before the season begins. Same referees as last year.

Softball – applications are still coming in. We should have 8 teams. There are more women signed up this year, with more coming in.

Volleyball – we received a request to make Volleyball co-ed so there will be enough players to have a game. We will continue to discuss since some women do not want to play with men who might be too competitive and take over the game. Will discuss further for next year.

Bocce – The courts are in bad condition as the DPW didn’t clean up after winter yet. Nic will check it out and make a list of things needed to be cleaned or repaired.

Recreation Director’s Report Dawn handed out the Financial Disclosure Statements from the town. They are required to be filled out every year by committee members.

General Comments None.

On a motion by Tony Lore, seconded by Andrea Dalessio, the meeting was adjourned at 8:35 p.m. All in favor, motion carried.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 7:30 pm.
