Minutes of Regular Meeting – February 3, 2014
Meeting called to order at 6:30 PM; Bobby welcomed everyone – had a good turnout. Recognized new members Vernon and Angie Miller, who have a 1946 Ford truck. Kala reminded everyone to fill out the 2nd sheet on renewal forms.
A thank you card from Betty Carter was passed around to members for the club flowers sent to Larry’s service. Larry Carter, a faithful member, who severed as club treasurer for three years was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.
Bobby turned meeting over to James Foster, a guest who told us about the Mardi Gras parade in Ocean Springs on February 28th. He has been working with Chic Cody who asked him to visit with some groups in our area. They would like to have a section with just old cars. Cars would need to be there around 5:30 PM – parade begins at 7:00. He gave us directions for the parade route and would appreciate our support. Can call his cell phone – 228-238-6481, or let Bobby Hand know by Feb 21 if you would like to enter the Ocean Springs night parade.
A lot of Club Members don’t want to put cars in because of the rowdiness, so we will leave it up to the individuals whether they participate.
January 2014 minutes were read and approved to accept.
Treasurer’s Report read and approved; not much activity other than members’ dues payments coming in.
Old Business:
Club Dinner at Sisters – had 69 members in attendance and everyone seemed to have a good time. However, we may have to start giving a “Hard Luck Award” at the meetings. Harold and Trudy were on the way to our dinner and ran over something in the highway; ruined the tire and rim, the new Camaros don’t have a spare. Needless to say, they missed our dinner. Better luck next year!
Monthly Cruise-in – Hopefully, we will remain in the same location; it sounds like we will be able to use it again this year. We are waiting on Ingalls’ attorneys to sign off in regards to the liability. After that we should be ok.
Annual Car Show: We are looking at May 17th and will be sure the Beach Park is available and go ahead and get it locked in.
The Board hasn’t met on our charities, but will be doing that pretty shortly so they can present to the general membership. Bobby passed around letters of thanks from Gulf Coast Down Syndrome and Dream Program; both organizations were very thankful for our support.
Cruising the Coast lot: Bobby has been trying to contact owners, but they haven’t returned his calls. We need to see what their expectations are for this October.
New Business:
Zonta wants to make sure we get on their calendar for October 4th, the day before Cruising the Coast starts. We have supported them for several years, but wanted to run it by our members before committing. Motion was made, seconded, and approved to support them. Bobby pointed out that we have two Club Members, Lynda Howell and Mary Garner, who are involved with the Zonta activities and a sponsor of our car show. Expressed thanks to them.
2 City of Pascagoula: Bobby and Ron met with some City officials regarding getting Cruising the Coast to Pascagoula; not a lot of information – looking at possibly a one day event, but not a big name performer. This is a different group of officials and they want to do something; would like our Club’s support. Bobby pointed out that we are obligated to Ocean Springs on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday for CTC. They wanted a Saturday event. Once they decide, we may help a little; possibly on Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon. We would still be limited because of our work in Ocean Springs.
There was much discussion, including whether Pascagoula could be an alternate site. Motion was made, seconded, and approved to help them as much as we can. Bobby will tell the City we will support them, depending on what they do and when.
After motion passed, more discussion on issue – recalled issues in past years; what does City have to offer, etc.
Discussion on Member Requirement page: Concern on “no alcohol policy” we try to enforce it at our Cruise-ins if we are aware of it; admit it’s been kind of slack at CTC. We have this rule in place to control the situation and to cover the club. If someone gets out of hand, we can call police; was mentioned to give those that rent spaces, a set of rules. We have never had any trouble with alcohol; if you have any problem, call Bobby Hand. Also pointed out that Pascagoula has passed a new ordinance regarding drinking in Public places that can be enforced.
As to people being required to work, Club is aware a number of members have medical issues and are not able to work; some work shiftwork, etc. We are just going to need all the help we can get with all the events coming up this year.
Raffle was $161 – won by Mr. DeSilvey, who graciously donated it back to the Club for our Club functions. Thanks
Debbie has membership cards available. If you want yours, please contact her. In the past, she has filled them out, then no one picks them up so now she will issue them as requested.
No further business, meeting adjourned at 7:20 PM.
Respectfully submitted: Brenda Brushaber, Recording Secretary

Your Car Story
We haven’t had a car story from a member in a long time.
I thought since we can’t get anyone to send us a car story, I would just share a picture of one of our new member’s ride. This is a 1948 Buick Super Convertible, owned by Merlin Wagner: This is a beautiful car.
We need your Car Story. How, when, why you have the car you have now. You may not think your story is interesting, but others will. Send by e-mail or if you don’t have e-mail, send it to me by mail, or Call me. Send a picture of your car along with your story if you like. 5 Kala Farris - E-mail: [email protected]
