Development Director

Warwick School is one of the oldest schools in the country reputedly founded in 914, and is part of a Foundation, which includes King’s High School for Girls and Warwick Preparatory School. The School is situated on spacious grounds adjacent to the river Avon and uses to the full its fifty-acre site that lies behind its imposing rococo Tudor-style frontage.

Warwick School is seeking to recruit an ambitious and creative Director of Development who will support the Governors and Head to achieve the school’s fundraising and development goals.

A proven track record in fundraising at a senior level, ideally with Capital Campaign, Annual Fund, PR, Publications and knowledge and experience of the City is required. An understanding of education and a commitment and ability to inspire and motivate others is necessary.

Job Description:

The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the fund raising and development strategy for Warwick School reporting to the Head Master. S/he will be responsible for achieving the school’s fundraising goals and will engage sponsors and donors through ongoing activities. This includes building key relationships and contacts within and outside of the Warwick School community.

Objective of role:

To create a long term sustainable community of sponsors, supporters and donors for the school, and raise significant funds to support the provision of bursaries by 2014

Responsibilities:

 Create and implement a fundraising and development strategy and an annual development plan  Lead and manage the school’s overall development efforts and raise significant funds by 2014  Train and lead other staff to support fundraising and marketing efforts  Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate, charitable and Foundation sponsors, as well as individual donors  Develop and grow the school’s individual donor base; manage annual giving campaign and cultivate major gifts

Education:

 Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent Experience and Skills:

 At least 5 years’ experience in a fundraising environment  Proven track record of personally fundraising and personally achieving fundraising targets  Proven ability to build relationships with high net worth individuals  Proven management and leadership capabilities  Experience working with senior individuals in an educational context  High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative  Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively  Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development  Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new opportunities  Strong partnership building and event planning skills  Good computer skills and knowledge of data base programs  Understanding of an educational environment preferred

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Regular duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned on an ongoing basis:

1. Fund Raising

 Raise new money and pledges through constant direct personal contact with potential donors  Develop and define the case for support  Establish the guiding principles and policies used in fundraising paying heed to the ethos of Warwick School and the ethical standards involved in the development function  Enlist support from members of staff, parents and old boys  Orchestrate approaches to institutional donors  Research public and private grant sources (agencies, charities, corporations and foundations) to identify sources of funding  Organise individual donor campaigns (e.g., major donors, direct mail and others)  Cultivate donors by producing specialised correspondence, preparing letters of acknowledgment, scheduling and attending in-person visits  Supervise and coordinate activities of staff engaged in maintaining database and paper records of contributors and grants  Maintain security and quality controls  Produce general content for development section of the website  Maintain accurate accounting of all fund raised income and its sources, interfacing with the Finance team to fulfil information requests and following the Foundation’s Financial protocols and procedures  Dedicate on-going attention to personal professional development  Develop the department’s annual budget and monitor and control expenses throughout the budget year  In consultation with the Head, other senior staff and the Development Committee, develop a long- term plan for Warwick School’s development program; monitor the plan and update strategies as required  Serve as a primary liaison as Warwick School’s public spokesperson at development-related activities, as needed. 2. Supervision

 Provide oversight of the Development Department including Alumni Relations  Directly supervise employees within the Development and Alumni Relations Department  Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the School's policies and procedures  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
