Marketing of new program additional courses will be effective for the Fall 2014 semester. They have 3. John to Netherlands been approved the KCC Curriculum and Academic Standards Committee and 4. Dual Credit KCC Board of Directors. The next step is the pending approval by the Illinois Community College Board. 2. The new curriculum allows students to take common courses from both of the old programs and then decide on one of three individual tracks that suite the student’s needs. This will also provide the students with the opportunity to accomplish stackable certificates that may be accomplished after only one semester. Paul Carlson added that the idea of “stackable certificates” has been a new requirement of the State of Illinois. Reimbursement by the state will be from completions. Students will also benefit by achieving success quickly from certificates on their way to their associate degrees. 2 Enhancing quality of life through learning. Business and Technology Division Meeting Minutes 3. Another benefit of the new curriculum is that it ties art, CAD and design together. 4. Questions from Committee members regarding the new certificate included:  How often will classes be offered? Some are only once per year; some are twice, depending on the pre-requisites and demand.  Are the certificates recognized by industry or just the college: Certificates are offered by the college to show completion. There are online certificates available to students, but the cost and location of testing usually prohibit students from trying for these.  Are other colleges using this same curriculum? The new curriculum was modeled after Purdue University’s Computer Graphic Technology program.  Employer feedback? The more software that students are exposed to the better. B. Marketing After ICCB approval of the new curriculum, John will inform all counselors and the KCC Marketing department. The program’s Facebook page will be updated as well. C. Faculty Development Jan Sander Heutink from Deltion College in Genemuiden, Netherlands visited KCC for 2 weeks in October on an Instructor Exchange program for CAD. John will go to the Netherlands for 2 weeks in May. D. Other Dwayne Musick stated that KCC wants to emphasize the completion of certificates to encourage student success. They then have certificates to show for even a short attendance at the college. High school students can take Dual Credit in several college-level classes currently. John would like to see them be able to have a semester of college completed before they graduate from high school. 5. Technology Update John detailed the Package Design Rapid Prototyping printer. Students use Illustrator to design the graphics. The printer uses all kinds of media which gives them more hands-on experience with using a number of different medias.
