Cromwell Fire Department MONTHLY MEETING Minutes January 5, 2015 ROLL CALL : 63 total voting Quorum present : Yes PROCEEDINGS: Call to Order: Call meeting to order. Time: 19:21 Salute to National Colors: Chief Pendl led the Pledge of Allegiance. Moment of Silence: In memory of all public service personnel and in memory of Daniel Klingaman, firefighter from Cromwell, Indiana. SECRETARY’S REPORT: December meeting minutes were posted and emailed, no changes made to the final draft. Motion to approve minutes by D. Clare, seconded by C. Zdeb. Motion carried with no discussion. TREASURER’S REPORT: The Activity Account has a balance of $35,933.19. The balance of the Trust Account is unknown, no report. The tree and wreath sale net proceeds were $4,284.70. The Blue Room Party expenses were $1,200.00 the raffle proceeds were $339.80. Net expenses were $860.20. The costs for the Kids Christmas party and the Santa Run were $1,705.85. The Monetary Contribution to Cromwell Human Services from the Santa Run was 1,369.00.
Motion made to accept the Treasurer’s report by K. Gish, seconded by K. Tobias, no discussion motion carried. CHIEF’S REPORTS: Chief Pendl – Thank you to all who did a tremendous job at the Brittany Circle fire. The MVA couple who were hit the other night ended up with a fatality of the driver. - Please be sure to consider scene preservation and make sure we don’t disturb possible evidence for FM or Police during overhaul. - Adopt a FF will be meeting after this meeting.
Salonia: 10-11-4A stretcher has an issue and is currently out of service. 4A also has some vibrations in the front end. - 5” Hydrant pre-connects have been ordered and should be here soon. - The 10-11-4B alignment issue has been corrected.
Duff: - Training attendance rosters must be signed by attendees only. Also there is a description of the drill on back, be sure it is filled out. - Hailey Shaw is qualified on 4C and Staff 1 - Outside training is being posted on our website and also see Chief Duff.
Clare: - New Cervical Spinal protocol has been put in place in the State and Middlesex is adopting it word for word. - The New Ambulance is in the paint shop and we expect to hopefully see it in February. Jan. 2015 CFD Monthly Meeting - Power loads on both 4A and 4B are having issues getting hung up. Please resort to manual until Stryker gets repair done. CFD Trivia: last year we had 26 EMS calls with CPR & AED’s of them 15 patients were treated and transported with care. 11 were DOA, 57% were transported in cardiac arrest but made it to ED with a pulse. We had a total of 2512 combination calls, 2036 were EMS, 974 were daytime, 1534 were transport, 502 refused, 252 at 385 Main St., 129 calls to 52 Missionary, 100 calls to 15 Berlin Rd., 23 calls to 123 West St. 16 to the Children’s home - Chief Clare will be out of town during the day taking his EMT refresher.
District Reports: FMO: No Report
Dispatch: - Thank you with patience on the new frequencies. When we get on scene we need to change to fireground. Respond 1st that you got there to dispatch. Then size up and state “will operate this call on Fireground 1. IC has two radios, one will be kept on the command channel. If Driver only on scene, then stay on dispatch. - Please use common sense, if it is an auto alarm, slow down and let another staffed vehicle arrive first. You may proceed with the flow as driver only when it makes sense to do so. If you know you cannot set up and be of benefit to the situation, it makes sense to slow down and not go hot. You will wait anyway.

Training Report: TRAINING REPORT: FIRE/EMS January 12th Fire/ EMS- Fit testing and Gear at West St. 19th Fire/ EMS – Fit and Gear (Station Night) 26th Fire Essentials and Basics EMS- Presentation of Case Scenario
CPR with D. Boyce this month Fire I will be starting here in January, but Thurs nights will be at West St. due to card team conflict.
You will be getting notices to do the Annual Mandatory Refreshers, please do them by the end of the month or you will be taken offline.
Explorers: Meeting on the 8th.
Orientation: S. Webber is putting together Dates.
COMMUNITY SERVICES REPORT (smoke detectors): No Report.

Jan. 2015 CFD Monthly Meeting COMMITTEE REPORTS: Oversight: No Report Sick: Life Member Johnny Bart passed away and a Sympathy Card was sent. House: No Report Membership/ Recruitment: Received Workforce Solutions Grant and we will see some video and possible TV ads and Rocky Hill got it as well. Ways & Means: No Recreation: Tickets for the Comedy show are printed and you can get from S. Rollka or T. Perron. $15 each. Show starts at 7PM Ceremonial Planning: - Still taking nominations for the Challenge Coin Award. Gathering on Dec. 8th Billy T’s at 7PM for planning and year review. Web Page: No Report. Safety: Need to focus on back up procedures for apparatus drivers. The Auto-ejects need to be exercised, make sure they unplug. The exhaust hoses need to be hooked up and the bay doors need to be closed. An SOP will be issued soon regarding fire helmet use when off the ground. Public Education: Adopt a ff is taking starting in Feb, see Chief Pendl if interested. Grant Writing: We applied for the FM Global Prevention Safety Grant for a Bullex digital training system and the Assistance to Firefighters grant as well. Awards/Archives: Next month the Membership meeting will be held at Court St or a part of it so we can do a dedication ceremony for the communication center in honor of Carl and Nellie Thorell who lived at West St and were our dispatch between 1928 and 1979. Unfortunately we had a computer crash and lost a lot of historical photos from 1998 to present. Memorial and Scholarship Fund: J. Netto discussed a new scholarship. The www.Netostudentfund.com that will grant two scholarships a year to CFD families. Some members have already made generous contributions to it. Engine 5: Awaiting to get a work crew together. Pavilion: No Report

TEMPORARY COMMITTEE REPORTS: Communication Liaison Committee – No Report SOG/SOP and Bylaws – Chief will be releasing the committee list tomorrow. Training Building- Looking into permits and will be getting a committee together to get it up and running as soon as possible.

BILLS PRESENTATION & ACTION: No bills presented. CORRESPONDENCE: - A thank you note was received from Pastor Krampitz for our assistance to an alarm call. It was quickly resolved and he thanked the member that left the goodies for him on his vehicle.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: - Thank you to the Fire Commission for the purchase of the new “Rescue” Golf Cart. They picked up the tab and it will be utilized for public service events.
NEW BUSINESS: - Thank you for all the assistance in the busy month of December. - Note that our Goals for 2015 as reiterated by the Chief are RESPONSIBILITY & ACCOUNTABILITY. - Chief introduced the three new Lieutenants: D. Ricard, J. Inghilterra, and M. Davis.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: - Congratulations to Sean and Jess Angus on the birth of their baby boy, Cameron James on Dec. 30 - The Chief regrets to share the passing of Past Deputy Chief Jim Bellamo’s brother Vito., the Dept. sent flowers. - Melissa still needs orders for Jackets and Work Shirts. All money needs to be in by January 9. We need AT LEAST 15 of each. All quotes include Name and/or Rank and our Logo. The District pays for HALF the cost of the Jackets Members ONLY- your cost is quoted.
- CFD Navy workshirt is $56.75 sizes S-XL and $2 per X larger.
- Lightweight CFD Jacket is $42 sizes S-XL and $2 per X larger.
- Heavy Weight CFD Jacket is $38 sizes S-XL and $2 per X larger.
