JOB DESCRIPTION: An Academic Coordinator of Welding is responsible to the Department Chair of Industry and Skilled Trades for management of assigned program(s) or discipline(s) and the promotion and operation of all functions related to an assigned program(s) and/or discipline(s). The Academic Coordinator performs all instructional duties, advises students and serves as a leader and example of an excellent faculty member. These duties are conducted in collaboration and coordination with program/discipline faculty.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Presents course material through a variety of appropriate and effective instruction strategies to facilitate learning in accordance with course syllabi. • Assists in the academic advisement, recruitment and placement of assigned students, evaluation of transcript credit, and recommends course substitutions as required with input from program/discipline faculty. Maintains 8 hours of scheduled office time weekly. Fosters communication, coordinates and ensures current course syllabi adhere to Aiken Technical College standards. • Ensures that courses within the assigned area of responsibility meet program accreditation standards. • In collaboration with program/discipline faculty recommends textbooks, equipment, facilities, technology and instructional materials. Ensures good lab procedures are followed. Maintains equipment and reports repair and replacement needs. • Assists and makes recommendations for the hiring and evaluation of temporary adjunct faculty with input from program/discipline faculty. • Recommends advisory board members and assists with meeting coordination with input from program/discipline faculty. • Identifies efficiencies and makes course schedule recommendations based on input from program/discipline faculty. Ensures program promotional materials are current and relevant (as applicable) with input from program/discipline faculty.

• Serves on the assessment and/or core general education outcomes committee. • Develops program assessments, program reviews and provides input for program planning and execution with input from program/discipline faculty. Ensures College policies and procedures are followed. • Communicates information to all full and part-time faculty in a timely manner. Appropriately manages timelines, submits information and completes tasks by established deadlines.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or an Associate’s Degree and demonstrated competencies in the teaching discipline are required. Preferred: a minimum of three (3) years work experience as a welder with appropriate certifications (valid/current credentials such as AWS CWI/CWE), completion of Federally approved Apprenticeship program will be considered with proper certifications, the organizational and communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher, the aptitudes to assist both new and returning students to achieve their educational goals and objectives. Knowledge and experience in welding theory, metallurgy, mathematics, blueprint reading, oxygen acetylene welding and brazing, S.M.A.W., G.M.A.W., G.T.A.W., S.A.W., F.C.A.W. and P.A.C. all to A.W.S. and industry standards preferred. Also the ability to communicate effectively and develop programs and curricula to meet industry needs, and demonstrate welding skills that meet ASME standards applicable to pipe welding in nuclear industry will be preferred.
