MINUTES - UNION COUNTY BOARD OF SCHOOL TRUSTEES November 28, 2011– 7:00 P.M.

ATTENDEES: Dr. Wanda All, Ms. Kim Bailey-Vice Chair, Mr. Jantzen Childers, Ms. Jane Hammett, Mr. Manning Jeter, Ms. Betty JoAnn McMorris-Chair, and Ms. Jane Wilkes.

ABSENT: Ms. Kakie White and Mr. Buck Peay

Call to Order: Ms. Betty JoAnn McMorris, Chair, called the meeting to order.

Invocation and Pledge of Allegiance: The invocation was given by Ms. Betty JoAnn McMorris, who also led in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Notice to Media: In accordance with the S.C. Code of Laws, Section 30-4-80(d), as amended, the following have been notified of the time, date, place and agenda of this meeting: The Union Daily Times, Union County News, WBCU Radio Station and The Spartanburg Herald-Journal.

Minutes A motion to approve the minutes of the November 14, 2011, meeting was made by Mr. Manning Jeter, seconded by Ms. Jane Hammett. The vote was (7-0) in favor of the motion.

Superintendent Dr. Woodall thanked Barbara Palmer for hosting the Board meeting and thanked her for the reception and gift she provided. Ms. Palmer recognized outstanding volunteers at Foster Park Elementary School: T.J. Tyler, Teresa Humphries, Barbara Kirkland, Susan Adams, Wendi Thraikill-Pierce, Brandy Waddell, Carrie Jones, Catrina Brown, Chris Scott, Christy Scott, Dawn Hooper, Dell Mitchell, Donna Sweezy, Donna Holcombe, Elaine Peake, Glenda Lawson, Gwen Beavans, Heather Dudley, Keith Dudley, Jennifer Calhoun, Joyce Candler, Kelly Tucker, Lara Goodfellow, Lennie Rogess, Melissa Jones, Ed Palmer, Gail Hubbard, Richie Barnes, Sara Parks, Sarah Duckett, Shirley Mitchell, Carol Oldaker, Norman Johnson, Jackie Johnson, Tammy Williams, Carolyn Tilghman, Jason Tilghman, Margie Ruff, Cathy Wood, Roxanne Brawley and Lewis Jeter.

Dr. Woodall talked to the Board about Economic Development Initiative. We have been working with the Economic Development Board and we are starting to educate our students about how many opportunities there are in the manufacturing industry. We have some really impressive, state of the art, high technology jobs in Union at GESTAMP, Haemonetics, and Timken, just to name a few. We are very fortunate to have these industries and they are allowing us to come on a field trip with our high school teachers, guidance counselors, and Career Development Facilitators on February 10th.

Dr. Woodall reminded the Board that if they are interested in attending the annual convention February 23-26, let Kim Petty know because the rooms go quickly. 1 Personnel Dr. Woodall presented the personnel report to the Board. Dr. Wanda All made a motion to approve the personnel report, seconded by Mr. Jantzen Childers. The vote was (7-0) in favor of the motion.

Instruction Ms. Langley provided an update on the school report cards to the Board.

Finance Mr. Lynn Lawson provided the monthly budget report to the Board.

Ms. Betty JoAnn Mc Morris stated there are two personnel items which requires an executive session. Mr. Manning Jeter made a motion to go into executive session, seconded by Dr. Wanda All. The vote was (7-0) in favor of the motion. The Board entered into executive session at 7:39 P.M.

The Board reconvened into open session at 8:30 P.M. Ms. McMorris stated that while in executive session, no votes were taken.

Adjourn Mr. Manning Jeter made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Ms. Kim Bailey. The vote was (7-0) in favor of the motion. The Board adjourned at 8:31 P.M.
