JOIN THE STATEWIDE HEALTHY YOUTH ALLIANCE In an effort to ensure comprehensive Sex Ed in Wisconsin schools

For too long, many Wisconsin youth have not been receiving comprehensive, medically- accurate sex education in their schools. Teens are not getting the education and information they need to make safe, healthy decisions when it comes to sex and sexuality. Using evidence based research, education, and advocacy, this statewide coalition will work towards ensuring comprehensive sex education in Wisconsin’s schools. Here are the facts:  Teens account for nearly half of all new sexually transmitted infection (STI) cases annually  According to a 2008 study released by the CDC, one in four sexually active teens contract an STI.  Approximately 750,000 pregnancies occur annually among teens ages 15-19  In Wisconsin: o Almost 11,000 teens will become pregnant this year o The Chlamydia rate for teens in WI has climbed steadily for the past 8 years We need to provide our teens with the education, tools, and resources they need to lead healthy lives – ignorance and denial are not the answer. Responsible sex education has been shown to delay teen sexual behavior and reduce the incidents of teen pregnancy and STIs.
