I. CALL TO ORDER Chairperson Ms. Berkman called the meeting to order at 9:17 a.m.

II. APPROVAL OF PRIOR MEETING MINUTES MINUTES 15-08; JUNE 22, 2015 Mr. Michelson moved to approve the minutes as presented. Mr. Antonetz seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

III. TOWN HALL REPORT- MR. GERVAIS SUNSET PARK The sign to the park was replaced on August 10, 2015. Council re-named the park in honor of former Councilmember Vincent Benevente. It is now known as Vincent Benevente Sunset Park.

SUNRISE PARK Golf cart space is in the process of being installed.

NANCE PARK Restroom roof replacement is estimated at $4,600.00. Restroom painting estimated at $4,150.00. Repairs to restroom columns estimates are in the process. Shingle samples and paint color are to be approved by the Town Council

FIFTH AVENUE HOLIDAY LIGHTS The Committee agreed to have the Candle and Poinsettia (with the Soldier as an alternate) for the 2015 Holiday Lights.

IV. BEAUTIFICATION STATUS OF BEAUTIFICATION AWARD SIGN Mr. Antonetz moved to recognize 200 South Palm Avenue (a/k/a 303 Sixth Avenue), with the Committee’s beautification sign. Ms. Campbell seconded the motion and the motion carried unanimously. Ms. Mercer will send a letter to the property owner advising of the Committee’s decision. The sign will remain at the current location of 904 Wavecrest Avenue, until arrangements have been made to relocate the sign. Nominations for the next location will be brought before the committee at the next scheduled meeting. V. PARKS A. NANCE PARK, DUNES RESTORATION PROJECT, LINDA POSTMA Ms. Postma presented to the Committee her concerns regarding Nance Park and the Dunes Restoration projects. Invasive Beach Naupaka, also known as the Hawaiian half-flower, and the Brazilian Peppers have taken over the area. Ms. Postma would like to begin on November 1st, the end of Sea Turtle Season, to remove these invasive vegetations. With the removals, the area would be replanted with Sea Grapes. Ms. Postma has the support from the County, local residences and will be working through the Town on removing scaevola plants the Town.

B. FRDAP- ORLANDO PARK The play equipment has arrived. Mr. Chinault noted that although in the intent was expressed in securing a large boulder play item, sufficient funds were not affordable.

Yellow and blue stationary tot cars intended for 2 to 5 year olds have been added to Orlando Park to compliment recent park improvements. Also included is a rockscape climbing item for older youth that is situated north of the horizontal ladder.

C. PROPOSAL TO RE-NAME RIVERSIDE PARK AS ERNEST KOUWEN-HOVEN RIVERSIDE PARK Mr. Chinault advised the Committee that Jenifer Marx, a Town resident, would like to re-name the park. The second public hearing by Town Council will be September 9th. Council is considering re-nameing the park in honor of Ernest Kouwen-Hoven who is responsible for transforming an area that previously was typified as being East Melbourne into the greater community known today as Indialantic.

Mr. Michelson moved to approve the re-naming Riverside Park as Ernest Kouwen-Hoven Riverside Park as presented. Mr. Antonetz seconded. Motion carried unanimously.

D. PARKS UPDATE TRADEWINDS PARK - CATHERINE BERKMAN No complaints.

WAVECREST PARK, INDIALANTIC OCEAN BEACH PARK & WAVECREST EXTENSION PARK - LARRY MICHELSON & MINDY FORD No complaints.

DOUGLAS PARK & RIVERSIDE PARK - JOANNE NADEAU Not present.

SUNRISE PARK & SUNSET PARK - BERNIE GOTT Sunrise Park- no complaints.

Sunset Park- questioned if the wall bordering the park is too high. Debris under the large tree by the river, is in need of removal.

NANCE PARK & INDIAN RIVER PARK – BILL ANTONETZ Nance Park- Mr. Chinault advised the Committee that estimates have been to have the palm trees in the park trimmed and to paint and shingle the roof of the bathhouse.

ORLANDO PARK & DEWEY PARK – LISA PETERS Not present.

Orlando Park- Ms. Campbell had family that visited the park while in the area. The family members absolutely loved the park.

VI. RECREATION

VII. OTHER WITCH WAY 5K Saturday, October 10, 2015 Indialantic and the Rotary Club of Indialantic will be hosting the 8th Annual Witch Way 5K. The Halloween-themed event has been the primary source of funds for recent major boardwalk and beach crossover improvements. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to continue Indialantic beautification efforts and also be shared with the Rotary, which will donate funds to Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine and No Limits Academy. An after party hosted by Long Doggers will be held at the Indialantic Shopping Center. There will be trick or treating for the kids, a bounce house and music. Race awards will also be given. The event starts in Nance Park at 5:30 pm and also ends there around 6:45 pm. Please join in the festivities by running, walking or cheering the participants through the streets of your neighborhood. To ensure the safety of participants, roads along the course will be closed to thru traffic. We are expecting over 700 participants and want to make sure everyone is safe. Volunteers are needed for this event. Please visit www.witchway5k.com for more information.

Mr. Antonetz, Mr. Gott, Mr. Michelson and Ms. Campbell advised they were available to volunteer for the event.

ANNUAL HALLOWEEN PARTY The 20th annual Halloween Party begins at 4 pm on Saturday, October 24 on Fourth Avenue behind Town Hall. Hayrides and a haunted house provide some unexpected surprises. Games and prizes, refreshments, and entertainment are furnished at no charge however, donations are always welcome. Sponsors and volunteers to work the games and refreshment stations should contact Scott Smith at 223- 8955 or [email protected].

BOOK EXCHANGE Ms. Berkman advised the Committee that Susan Dieterle’s daughter is in the process of decorating a mailbox, which will be placed in Orlando Park. “The Little Library” mailbox will be installed with the assistance of the Public Works Department.

COMMITTEE MEMBER Ms. Schwanbeck will be retiring from the Committee in December 2015, following the Annual Holiday Tree Lighting.
