Collaborative Wiki Research Project

COLLABORATIVE WIKI RESEARCH PROJECT

PURPOSE: You will be creating a class wiki on topics relating to Shakespeare and his life and times. You have chosen the topic you wish to research and will collaborate with members of that group to produce a wiki page on your topic. Each group is responsible for researching a different topic to develop that strand of the wiki. Each strand has a separate link from the main page. Your group can create additional links from the main page or your specific page as needed. The end product will demonstrate your expertise on your topic and your ability to share the information with other students studying Shakespeare.

WHEN WILL WE WORK ON THIS? This is an on-line collaborative assignment, so you are not limited to simply working on this assignment in class. In fact, much of your work will be done outside of class. You will need to assign team members to assist in coordinating your efforts. Jobs should include, but not e limited to:  Lead Coordinator – this will be your “go-to” person for problems with the Wiki. It will be this person’s responsibility to make sure each member is completing their assignment. This person will also rally members together if any member is encountering problems to provide assistance.  Meeting Coordinator – It will be important that your group plan on-line meetings from time-to- time to discuss progress. It may not be possible to have every member there for every meeting, but time needs to be scheduled for discussion on how work is progressing. I suggest at least twice per week until the project is completed. It will be the responsibility of this person to notify the teacher as to when on-line meetings are arranged.  Meeting Recorder - When face-to-face meetings occur, it will be the responsibility of this person to recorder the meeting and post the minutes on-line for group members who are not present to view. Minutes from face-to-face meetings and on-line meetings should be posted together. This could be a link from your wiki page. It is very important that all meeting minutes are posted in a timely manner.  Proofreader – This person or persons will be responsible for proofreading the Wiki page and ensuring that there is a unified look to the page. While each person should check their work for spelling and grammar errors, this person(s) will give the page a final once over.

Please follow all netiquette rules. Anyone failing to follow on-line behavior rules or class rules will face consequences which can include but not be limited to: a grade deduction, removal from the project, loss of computer privileges.

WHAT SHOULD WE INCLUDE IN OUR ENTRY? Your job is to write an online encyclopedia article about your assigned topic. Assume the audience knows nothing. You should include pictures, podcasts, video, links – anything you believe will add to the reader’s understanding of the material. Make sure the information is appropriate and correctly cited.

EVALUATION Students will be evaluated based on the overall look of the wiki (see Rubric) and positive peer evaluation and collaboration.
