Job Overview
As a CIBC Financial Planning Consultant (FPC) you partner with CIBC branch-based advisors to provide expert financial planning council, specializing in wealth management solutions. The Financial Planning team operates within the Investment Industry Regulatory Association of Canada (IIROC) framework or the Mutual Funds Dealer Association (MFDA).
CIBC relationship managers in four market segments (Business Banking, CIBC Retail, Imperial Service and Private Wealth Management) will leverage your financial planning expertise to provide holistic, customized financial plans (retirement, estate, business succession and tax) for their High Net Worth clients and prospects ($1-5 million of investible assets). This client focused strategy combines the expertise of the FPC’s with Best In Class MFDA or IIROC platform solutions including Discretionary Managed Solutions, third party mutual funds and fixed income. You generate strong teamwork with CIBC relationship managers to ensure the highest level of client satisfaction and retention.

What You’ll Be Doing
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Work with relationship managers and their clients to identify retirement, estate, business succession and investment needs using appropriate financial planning methods/tools. Develop recommended financial plans to best meet client needs and based on these close the sale: • Interview clients to define and analyze their needs and goals, find gaps, discuss solutions, recommend the appropriate asset mix and close the sale. • Educate clients about their investments and their portfolio. • Share results of client discussions and coordinate delivery of products/services sold with the relationship manager. • Identify opportunities to make referrals to other CIBC subsidiaries involved in client asset management and discuss with the relationship manager.
2. Establish/maintain teamwork with branch network relationship managers to identify current and potential High Value Clients with holistic financial planning needs to obtain referrals: Educate Advisors and relationship managers about the role of the FPC and establish the FPC as an integral part of the branch network salesforce by motivating relationship managers to make referrals. Review client portfolios as requested by the relationship manager. Conduct regular information sessions/seminars for relationship managers.
3. Conduct information sessions with the CIBC sales force and current/potential customers to educate regarding investment products/services, estate and business transition planning as well as the role of the FPC, resulting in deepened client relationships.
4. Remain up-to-date with current events, market information/trends, products, etc. in to provide optimal investment advice to clients and to share information with relationship managers.
5. Establish and maintain a network of relationships within the delivery network in order to increase consolidation of High Value Client business.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Internal partnership occurs regularly with:
Relationship managers (ie. Commercial Banking Managers, Financial Advisors, Financial Advisors-Business, Private Bankers) Local Retail Distribution Business Banking leadership and Private Wealth Management Executive Directors Leadership teams within CIBC product groups and subsidiaries involved in client asset management (ie. CIBC Trust, CIBC Securities, Wood Gundy and CIBC Private Investment Council).
What We’re Looking For
Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC), the Conduct and Practices Handbook Course (CPH) Registered Representative status or MFDA status Successful completion of the Certified Financial Planner designation (CFP) within 18 months of hire is required Successful completion of the IQPF designation (Quebec only) 7 - 10 years’ experience structuring complex retirement, investment, tax and business transition solutions for High Net Worth clients, resulting in a thorough understanding of economic/political impacts on business, legislation, competitors, regulators, trends, etc Polished interactive/presentation skills to effectively convey information/ideas to clients and the CIBC sales force
