Job Title: Senior Support worker (shift leader)

Reports to: Assistant Manager/General Manager

Hourly rate ; £7.73 – full time and part time

Purpose of Job: To ensure safety of service user/s, service user home and carry out everyday shift leader responsibilities.

To provide high quality care to all service users under the direction of an Assistant Manager or the General Manager. To provide supervision for new and existing Care Assistants/Support workers who undertake duties in support of service users. To regularly take charge of the shift and the home in the absence of the Assistant Manager or General Manager.

Main Responsibilities in addition to the tasks:

1. Instruct, support, mentor and act as a role model for new and existing Care Assistants/Support workers, with the emphasis on high quality care, maintaining health and safety and ensuring that the environment is conducive to the delivery of care.

2. Have a good understanding of company policies and procedures. Report all significant events and variations to the appropriate line manager.

3. Actively encourage the social well being of service users and contribute to the development of new ideas in respect of stimulation for service users to improve their quality of life.

4. Review stock levels of supplies within the home and submit replenishment orders to a nominated person or direct to a supplying organisation.

5. Ensure that documentation relating to the delivery of care is completed accurately, legibly and in accordance with company policies and procedures. Participate in the formal audit process of service delivery and quality of care at the request of the General Manager.

6. Participate in care reviews for service users with or without management supervision to promote and enhance a multi disciplinary approach to care delivery and review.

7. Identify own training needs and discuss any development issues at supervision sessions and attend any training as instructed or required.

8. Assist with the reception and orientation of new service users in a reassuring manner.

9. Act as a key worker if required to a nominated service user or users.

10. Attend to the personal care needs, appearance and hygiene requirements of service users at all times in accordance with their documented care plan.

11. Complete service users care plan documentation as directed.

12. Prepare dining areas for use and assist service users with meal preparation if appropriate. Provide assistance to service users with eating and drinking as needed. Maintain adequate records regarding nutrition and fluid intake as required.

13. Maintain cleanliness in all communal and private areas and encourage service users to participate in daily living activities.

14. Maintain adequate clean and laundered clothing for each service user and actively encourage their involvement in the selection and purchase of clothing.

15. Assist service users to undertake daily tasks such as bed making, disposing of soiled linen in accordance with company procedures and the infection control policy.

16. Provide support to service users to make visits to hospital, dentist, shops or other approved excursions as required.

17. Assist and actively encourage the social care and the well being of service users. Contribute to the development of new ideas in residential care and in respect of stimulation for service users to improve their quality of life.

18. Following appropriate training and assessment to administer medicines to service users in accordance with company policy.

19. As directed liaise with members of the multi disciplinary team to ensure that adequate supplies of appropriate medication are available for each service user.

 Maintain good working relations with all colleagues at all times.
