B. Progress on engineering mentors  Last Friday, students came to listen to engineers talk about engineering and their jobs, classes needed, different types of engineering  Most students picked engineering after freshman year, maybe kids want to switch pathways; more kids involved; strong mentoring program; keep it growing next year  Mr. Ekberg: put the knowledge you know and share it with students  Helpful for kids to hear from engineers  Increase female population  Mr. Williams tells of buildings shown by engineers  Incoming freshmen engineering meeting? Sophomores for next year?  Talk to 7th and 8th graders about engineering class when they’re freshmen  Working on creating posters for RESA showing posters about academies; they took pictures of the classes at Jefferson  Commercial about the academies shown  Targeting next year’s sophomores; more details for them

C. Progress on engineering simulators  20 that help to assemble hydraulics; project  Some pieces are missing  Several members want to go look at them  Were going to use for sophomore engineering class  Freshmen getting taste of pathways D. Progress on Machine Tool Show  In Chicago  Most years Jefferson goes, district wants it annual; make it district sponsored; exposing to manufacturing  IMTF show, last couple years local; addition to National Manufacturing Day  Want to plan before summer, not when school starts  How many kids should you take? 3 teachers, 15 students each  Mr. Williams said tickets are free; transportation is provided  Mr. Kluzak: special section for high schoolers  Fill the buses; make it worth it  Mike Thomason said he would chaperone  Team up students with business people, show them around the show, can explain the latest technology  Introduction: John Rossato, principal of EMITT Academy

E. Progress on t-shirt fundraiser  Jill Jennings: Student Advisory Council students wanted t shirts to say “we are EMITT students and be proud of it”  Asked for sponsors, Rock Valley Tooling and Machining Association  Contest held to design the shirt; the winner was a girl  Shirt will be two colors; navy blue and grey  Sponsoring companies on the shirt  Sent out for approval from companies, and then will make the shirts  Planned further and continuing for freshmen, targeted $3,000, have $2,000  Wanting maybe backpacks or something else with EMITT name on it  Judy Gustafson: In addition to the pride and identity goal, he businesses on shirts show students that the companies support them as people; advertisements touch base with students  Questions: Can companies still contribute? Yes. Contact Judy ([email protected]) as soon as possible. Will AST members get shirts? The $2000 currently committed will buy shirts for all current EMITT students, faculty, and current donors.  Want a shirt? Contact Judy ([email protected]) as soon as possible.

V. Teacher Reports and Requests (Outcome: Requests met or referred to CCRC):  Jennings: Evaluator training in Madison, certified, wants to certify students ;WCA is Wood Working Career Alliance  Lots for schools out east and west  Program is national certification program, dealing with wood working; has two to three levels of interaction  She is certified to evaluate at high school level  Saw blade certificate for students  This is in a national registry data base if someone has lost their “passport” of certs  Performance test for students, to the specifications  Evaluators use sheets to evaluate them; operations to get checked off on  Have to pass a building test, given blank board according to page and measure  Have to pass 40-question test online  Calipers into intro classes, so they get a taste of them  Mr. Ekberg: competitions for high school kids  Jill had made request for banner to enter EMITT hallway, Mike Thomason said yes and is willing to make it  Wanting to paint pathways of EMITT pathway on walls  Kluzak; in April there is online certification for safety, next step is machine tool  Up and coming TMA: Technology and Manufacturing Association, competition through midwest with high schools competing, receive awards  Polen: Sorting out sim lab, ventilating the room,  Block party coming up- Saturday May 7th; went from 10-2 last year; several events- zombie run was biggest attraction  To improve zombie run, sponsors having obstacles  Emitty games- games with EMITT themes, carnival games  Student showcase; showcasing their EMITT work  Hoping the unveil the big sims  Need display cases  Mr. Jacobsen’s company has kiosk, group wants to take it for the school  Paperwork for donations for that company The Academy will generate a request letter for donations or sponsorships for the Block Party event.
