BRCC Intramural Basketball Policies and Rules

1. The league is CO-ED: all teams MUST list at least ONE eligible female on the squad and must play a female at least 10 minutes of each 40 minute game (several players can share this playing time). 2. CO-ED rule application: Games will be played as long as a team fields 5 eligible players at start time, as it cannot be determined until the end whether or not the co-ed policy has been adhered to. At the conclusion, a team which has been determined not to have complied shall receive a default loss to the team which has complied. “Extenuating circumstances” may be considered by, and at the discretion, of the I.M. director. 3. Team registrations (from captain) and all player release/waiver forms, with class tickets (schedules) for Spring term attached, must be received by posted deadlines for players to be eligible to play in the first game. Roster changes after those deadlines must be PRE-approved, and will be considered only if received by Wednesday before each Sunday’s game. NO changes, additions, or new player registrations will be considered on site (at the game.) 4. Players must wear team-colored shirts with letters clearly visible on front AND back. If “homemade” numbers are or become un-readable by officials at any time you will be taken out of the game until/unless a suitable number can be obtained. TEAM CAPTAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

5. Team entries are accepted only from team captain. 6. Team captain is responsible for maintaining appropriate communication to and from the Intramural Director and to and from their team, and for team’s compliance with policies and rules and team’s conduct. This includes listing and playing only eligible players, ensuring the minimum female play time, and making only changes consistent with stated policies. 7. Team captain must provide I.M. Director with roster 10 minutes before each game. CONDUCT

8. This league has a ZERO tolerance for profanity, fighting, and disrespectful behavior toward other players, officials, or spectators. Any violators will be subject to, depending on the severity of the violation, immediate ejection from the game, the league, BRCC, and/or legal action. Calls of the officials are not contestable, (do NOT appeal a call to the IM director.). However the IM director will have the authority to make an independent ruling at any time. (Such as calling a technical foul, ejecting a player, or calling a game.) 9. DUNKING is not allowed on the premise, at any time. If during a game it will constitute a technical foul. If flagrant, clearly intentional, and/or repeated, whether during a game or not, it may result in more severe penalties such as temporary or permanent expulsion from the league. BRCC is totally responsible and liable for any damage to facilities and equipment of the facility; the rule also carries injury liability implications. It is not negotiable. Do not dunk if you wish to play.

GENERAL RULES OF PLAY

10. Games consist of 2 20 minute halves, with running clock. Clock stopped during final 2 minutes if, in judgment of IM director, game result is in question. Overtimes are 3 minutes with clock stopping (other than time outs) only during last 2 minutes. If second overtime is needed, game ends if either team gains a 4 point advantage. 11. NCAA rules unless otherwise specified by this document or officials: Player fouled from 3 point range awarded 3 free throws; 7th team fouls begins 1 and 1; 10 begins 2 shot bonus, two time outs per half. 12. Two technical fouls in same game will result in expulsion of player from the game AND the gym. Three on a team results in a forfeit. All tech fouls result in two free throws and loss of possession. 13. Substitutions: teams may substitute during play as long as new player goes in “behind the play”. Do not need to check in with officials if player was listed on pre-game roster. FORFEITS

14. A five minute grace period is allowed. Beyond that, a team not fielding 5 players at start time (a 5 minute grace period will be allowed; beyond that any extended grace period will be solely at the discretion of the I.M. Director) shall forfeit. 15. Any team forfeiting two games without prior notification and approval of IM Director shall be ineligible for further play.

CO-ED POLICY and FAIR PLAY POLICY

16. Participation is the objective of this league; we have no national championships and no pro scouts are watching you. The co-ed policy is a means to promote this. Coaches are responsible for making every effort to comply with this policy and avoid defaults. It is strongly recommended that each team contain several eligible females. In addition, coaches are responsible to see that each player obtains a significant amount of playing time, regardless of their skill level. If it is determined by the I.M. Director that this is not happening corrective actions will be taken..varying from a discussion to a reprimand to a change of captains to a removal of players from the league.

SHIRTS

17. As noted elsewhere, team color shirts with clearly visible numerals on front and back are required. With advance request, we can provide appropriate team shirts at minimal expense, and if a team does not forfeit ANY games that amount will be refunded directly to the student; see Mr. Wright.
