CREATE 2012 ACTION PLAN (COINCIDES WITH FURTHER EVENT DISCUSSION):
FIRST STRATEGY: Tanya put together a spreadsheet showing the activities discussed at the last meeting. It would be late summer or early fall before anything happens with Liz’ project. We need to have inventory trips included in the volunteer training. Inventory can be scheduled for specific dates and times and can also be done randomly on each person’s own time. We would direct people to look for weeds that are common in their area. We need to determine how many classes and field trips we want to plan. We could have volunteers identify weeds in the same area as professionals to see what their skill level is for identifying them. Training will require a lot of involvement from Committee members. The minimum length for training should be 2 hours and maximum 4 hours. Will we provide food?
Weed Advisory Committee Meeting March 10, 2012 Beaver Creek Water District would be a good area to hit. We might be able to coordinate with the Santiam Water District. Time of year plays a part in whether people are willing to participate. Santiam is an irrigation district and Beaver Creek is a water control district. Tibby Larson with City of Salem said that the volunteers who worked on the Kuebler Blvd project have continued working on it on their own. River Rd S near Homestead Rd would be a good place for an ivy pull. Is there a way to encourage people to continue pulling weeds without us being involved? For example a sign recognizing the volunteer work. Posting a noxious weed sign at the fair entrance might be a good way to advertise. Tanya will find out when “Waste Matters” comes out so we can get an article in there. We want to do a weed pull at Niagara Park but carpool from Marion County Public Works. We would like to have our trial class and inventory in May. Tanya could do a U-Tube video called “Tansy 101”. Tanya will send out a spreadsheet of the activities to this committee. John thinks the Committee should take a field trip.
DISCUSS TERM LIMITS IN COMMITTEE BYLAWS: Tanya spoke with someone from the BOC about removing the term limits from the bylaws. The BOC wants to make sure that the terminology used in the bylaws clearly indicates that additional terms must be approved by the BOC.
MOTION: Unanimous approval to recommend to the BOC to remove the term limit from the bylaws using the terminology requested by the BOC. Discussion: None Abstentions: None Dissensions: None Results: Motion approved.
