Illinois Landscape Contractors Association

Bringing Careers to your Classroom with the Illinois Landscape Contractors Association Your students can see and hear what is going on in the fields of landscaping and horticulture from those who have chosen to follow this career path. The Illinois Landscape Contractors Association (ILCA) has professionals that are available to visit your school and conduct a brief presentation during regular classroom hours.

One of the missions of the ILCA is to bring landscaping and horticultural education to students. To accomplish that mission we have developed a presentation that provides an overview of green industry careers. The 45-minute presentation (Power Point followed by question & answer) is geared towards students in the 6th -12th grades. The presentation can be tailored to meet your time schedule and audience. The presenters provide resources where students and parents can obtain more information about green careers such as salary expectations, education, internships, summer jobs, and typical tasks.

ILCA represents contractors and educators who make their living in the green industry. The goal of the presentation is to demonstrate how horticulture is a viable, lucrative and enriching career path for students.

The primary benefit is that the presentation is given by an industry practitioner who makes his or her living in landscaping and horticulture. The presenter(s) is able to respond directly to student questions and base responses on his or her direct experiences. Horticulture professionals include landscape architects, contractors, landscape designers, growers, turf managers, retailers, salespeople, educators, etc.

These free presentations are usually made between November and March. We would like to arrange, a presentation date between now and March 15, 2009. Please reply by completing the form below giving the presenter(s) at least two weeks to schedule your presentation.

Sincerely, Lisa Fiore Kositzki Scott Grams Student Outreach Chair, ILCA Executive Director, ILCA ([email protected])
