Job Description: REV Birmingham Public Relations Intern, Fall 2015

Job Title: REV Birmingham Public Relations Intern Department: REV Communications Department Reports to: Communications Coordinator, Bryna Reid (with frequent interaction with Director of Investor & Public Relations, Atticus Rominger) Employment Status: Temporary, Unpaid Exceptional interns have the potential to be considered for paid contractual opportunities and/or referral to REV clients for part-time or full-time work in the future.

Position Summary: REV Birmingham seeks a Public Relations intern who is excited to apply their academic knowledge to real-world writing, media relations, marketing, promotions and research scenarios. Responsibilities consist primarily of content development and PR/marketing campaign implementation. Day-to-day tasks will generally include press release, newsletter, website copy, social media and promotional content generation. Interns will also gain experience working with specialty publications, managing PR archives and photo resources, coordinating guests for live TV and radio broadcasts, planning special events or promotions, providing communications support to additional REV staff, interacting with outside vendors and media outlets, managing social media outreach, collecting research, and assisting with the implementation of REV Birmingham’s overall marketing and PR strategies.

Minimum Job Requisites:

Education: Current sophomore, junior, or senior candidates pursuing a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Business, Marketing or related fields. Previous internship/market experience is highly regarded, but not required.

Availability: • Office Hours, Monday-Friday, anytime between 8:30am and 5pm. • Must be available 10-15 hours per week with the possibility of contributing additional hours for special projects and events. • Length and time period of internship will depend on each intern’s individual goals, with internships available for anywhere from four months to a year.

Requirements: • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills • Strong computer, technology and social media skills • Proof-reading and editing ability • Experience or interest in collaborating with media/press • Extensive research and strategic planning proficiency • Ability to coordinate calendar, meetings, special projects (as needed) • Ability to work to deadlines and multi-task effectively • Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook proficiency • Access to a personal computer with virtual internet capability • Strong organizational skills and ability to adapt to varying workloads • Person should be enthusiastic, articulate, poised, and professional • Willingness to learn and grow in all areas of communications field • Knowledge of and/or appreciation for urban revitalization and/or an interest in a career in PR or non-profit is highly regarded, but not required.
