“We are looking for a bright, talented and friendly social media guru to promote the online presence of a rapidly growing charity that advocates gender equality.”

What’s it all about?

It has almost been 20 years since Hilary Clinton famously presented the speech “Women’s Rights Are Humans Rights” to the United Nations and as we look at the alarming statistics it is evident that there is a long journey ahead.

 A conservative estimate is that 3 million women and girls are slaves (some put the number higher than 10 million).

 It is estimated that 2 million girls disappear a year due to gender discrimination (deaths due to things like withholding vaccinations, not seeking medical care, etc. because the child is a girl).

 More girls have been killed in the last fifty years because they were girls than all men were killed in battle in the 20th century.

 Burning a girl or woman (with kerosene or acid) due to disobedience occurs once every two hours.

Friendsline is a rapidly growing charitable organisation that aims to connect and empower women and girls from all over the world whilst forming a genuine life-long friendship. We currently operate two international initiatives with those who have been subjected to severe violence.

Friendsline operates a simple plan. We undertake fortnightly Skype sessions through netbooks that we have purchased and sent around the world. These Skype sessions, which have been designed by professionals, take place between our volunteers and the “target women”. The aim is to psychologically empower these women and to ultimately see the smile return back to their faces.

None of this would be possible without our ambitious team of 20 plus individuals and we’re always looking out for fresh talent to bring new ideas to the team.

What would the Social Media Officer do?

We have big plans over the next three years, not only do we want to expand our initiatives to South America and Africa, but we want to increase the number of women participating in our current programmes.

RESTRICTED However we realise that, in the current digital age we live in, none of this will be possible without a robust and creative social media strategy that will provide us the awareness that we so greatly need, not to mention the funding opportunities that come with it!

As the Social Media Officer you will have the opportunity to make a tangible difference to people’s lives in an organisation that is evolving every day. It’s about learning what we do and being challenged at the same time. You will take ownership of the charity’s complete social media strategy across Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms. From blogging daily on current affairs and opinion pieces, that relate closely to the Friendsline mission, to developing a clear plan in order to maximise our following online. Further, work closely with the Friendsline Executive Committee, to devise a way to build the charity’s international presence.
