The Stranger Part II

Chapter One (part 2)

1. Meursault is charged with being the Antichrist because he simply does not believe in God and the lawyer is concerned that Meursault is to hardened and uncaring and because of this he may lose this trial.

2. He states that he does not believe in God and just overly does not care about anything because in his view life has no meaning and in my opinion he is right.

3. Meursault reconciles the fact that he is a murderer because he knows that he killed a man he does not deny it openly or weep in his own defense like other criminals.

Chapter Two (part 2)

4. When Meursault says that its is and advantage to having a memory he is referring to the fact that while he is in jail it is a good thing to put his mind to work by recalling his life and what that means to him.

5. Meursault’s first hopes for when he is in prison is that he will be acquitted and released from jail because after a conversation with the jailer he realizes he wants his freedom back.

6. The jailer sees that Meursault is different because he understands that his freedom has been taken from him this is something that the other prisoners go on without realizing.

7. The only two words that still have meaning to Meursault are yesterday and tomorrow and that he does not comprehend that he has been in jail for five months.

Chapter Three (part 2)

8. The first thing that the judge asks Meursault’s is why he placed his mother in a retirement home.

9. The prosecutor claims that during the whole funeral Meursault did not cry once and the he even drank coffee and smoked, and did not even wish to see his mother’s body. Stanton Halterman AP Literature Ms. Vogt 4/13/11

10. Marie testifies about how she and Meursault plan to get married but this actually in turns hurts his case because the lawyer tells of how they got together two days after his mother’s death and how they even went to see a comedy movie.
