Junior R. Rohlfs, 88, of Redfield, SD, died Sunday, December 08, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Junior was born March 29, 1925 in Corona, SD to John and Mabel (Buttke) Rohlfs. He grew up and attended school in Corona before serving in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II. He served his country in the Philippine Islands. After his discharge, he married Margaret Miller on December 24, 1948 at Corona. They moved to Miller, SD where he worked for REA installing electrical poles. Junior and Margaret moved to Redfield and Junior worked for Jockheck Company and later owned the company selling farm equipment. He retired in 1982 and they enjoyed traveling and fishing at Whitlock Bay, especially the gatherings at the Baitshop.
He was a lifetime member of the Clay Kiser American Legion Post #92 and Paul A. Schleher VFW Post #2755 and a former volunteer firefighter.
Junior is survived by his children: Darrel (Darlene) Rohlfs of Watertown, SD; Rita (Larry) Price of Redfield; Rodney (Jill) Rohlfs of Fergus Falls, MN; and Terry (Deb) Rohlfs of Wolsey, SD; nine grandchildren: Darrel D. (Colleen) Rohlfs, Lori Price Hoffman, Brent (Linda) Rohlfs, Craig (Kami) Price, Shyla Rohlfs (Joey) Wessen; Steven “Herb” Rohlfs, Christy Rohlfs (Brad) Saltsman, Kyle (Tasha) Rohlfs and Erik Rohlfs and twenty great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers: Al Rohlfs of West Fargo, ND and Roger (June) Rohlfs of Corona and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents his wife Margaret in 2009, and his sister Alice Hooshagen.
