Pringles Can Book Report

January 13, 2014 Pringles Can Book Report

Dear Families,

For the next book report, the students will be asked to choose a book and create a report using the attached rubric. This report will ask the students to “get creative” with their ideas and thoughts as they plan out the report.

Important Dates:

January 13, 2014 Book report and rubric sent home

January 28, 2014 Students give Mrs. Beaudry title and author of the book they have selected.

February 27, 2014 Book Report is due and presented to the class.

Along with the required information (found in the description and the rubric), the students will complete a character can. For this, they will need a clean Pringles can, or some item of similar shape with a lid. This can will be decorated to look like the main character in the book your child collected.

It is important that your child decorates and completes this project by themselves, as it will cover many of the topics we have learned so far this year! Please monitor your child’s progress to make sure that they are reading at the appropriate pace in order to complete the project on time.

Sincerely,

Courtney Beaudry January 13, 2014 The Book Requirements

1. The selected book must be a book that the student has NOT read before.

2. The selected book must be 60 pages or more and a chapter book (unless permission has been granted otherwise.)

3. Students must bring the book into class on presentation day. If the book they are reading is checked out from the library, please make sure that they will still have the book on this date or make a colored copy of the front of the book.

4. Choose a book that is on your level.

5. The book must be approved by Mrs. Beaudry.

The Can Requirements

1. A Pringles chip can is the best choice for this project. Please clean the can thoroughly before working.

2. The can will be decorated to look like the main character.

3. Use any decorative elements that you would like.

4. Do NOT use anything on the can that is edible. The cans will be on display, and it is important that no little critters will be invited.

5. A description of the main character based on direct quotes from the book written on index cards. (I have some in the classroom if needed.)

The Chips

1. The students will be given “chips” for inside the can “character.” Each one must be filled out correctly to score a 3 on the project. Use the rubric to determine how to score a 4.

2. Students may also include other small items or pictures (drawn or printed) that have significance for the character or the story.

The Report

1. Students will include a 1 page typed, double-spaced report about the following topics. I would suggest a paragraph on each bullet. If you do not have a computer or printer please use neat handwriting and the report must be 2 pages.

 A summary of their favorite part of the book and why it was their favorite. January 13, 2014  The feelings they had as they read the book.

 Reasons for why they liked or did not like the book after finishing.

 Compare and contrast the main character to the reader (student).

 Connections they had while reading the book.
