WHEREAS, in 1913, Fullerton Junior College was founded and has become the oldest continuously operating community college in California; in 1972 its name changed to Fullerton College and is part of the North Orange County Community College District, with 61.9% of the students attending from North Orange County cities and 38.1% from the remainder of Orange County and other surrounding counties; and

WHEREAS, Fullerton College has grown to become one of the most successful community colleges in the nation through offering a comprehensive array of academic programs with 90 majors leading to the A.A. or A.S. degree in both academic and vocational subjects, as well as 68 programs leading to vocational certificates. Fullerton College also enjoys one of the highest transfer rates in the state sending graduates to the University of California, California State University campuses and other institutions of higher education; and

WHEREAS, Fullerton College has a myriad of resources available to students, such as the state-of-the-art Library/Learning Resource Center, brand-new College Center with food court and student lounge, wireless internet access, Wellness Center, Service Learning, weekly campus newspaper, free tutoring in English, writing, and Math; state and national honor societies, Workforce Center, and Transfer Center; and

WHEREAS, Fullerton College is celebrating the dedication of its newest historic building after nearly two years of construction by C.W. Driver and design by tBP/Architecture and thanks to the help of Measure X bond funds, the new 40,000 square foot building that is “The Classroom Office Building” has been completed; and

WHEREAS, the building will house fifteen state-of-the-art classrooms, twenty-six two-person faculty offices, the Social Sciences Division office, and a reading lab:

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orange County Board of Supervisors does hereby congratulate Fullerton College on its new Classroom Office Building and urges all students and members of the community to take advantage of the vast resources available within the building.
