BIOLOGY Syllabus

I. Course Biology introduces students to the vast diversity of organisms and the Description: characteristics that define life. Units include biodiversity, cells, interdependence, genetics, and evolution. Inquiry based laboratory work is required.

II.Course Objectives: To meet all objectives for Biology as set forth by the Alabama Course of Study and Madison City Schools

III.Classroom 1. Always show respect to yourself, your classmates, and your teacher. Expectations: 2. All gum, candy, drinks, electronic devices, etc. should be put away during class. 3. Be prompt. Be prepared. Be responsible. Be organized. Be on task. 4. Bring all needed materials to class. 5. Always follow directions.

*Choosing not to follow these classroom guidelines will result in the following: 1. Student conference 2. Parent notification/conference 3. Before/after school detention 4. Office referral

IV.BJ Grading Policy: All grades will be placed into weighted categories, and quarter grades will be computer calculated by the following percentages: 1. Examinations/quizzes/major projects – 70% 2. Labs/Homework/Classwork/Daily Participation – 30% *Your final exam will count 20% toward your semester grade.

*All requests for accommodations, for this course or any school event, are welcomed. All accommodations set forth for individual students will be honored.

V. BJ Make-up Test Tests & quizzes that are missed can be made up on Thursday mornings Policy: at 7:30am, Monday & Wednesday after school, and Patriot Path.

Labs 1. You must follow all rules and safety precautions in the lab. Refusal to do so will result in a zero on lab assignments. 2. Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the lab. 3. No eating or drinking in the classroom or lab.

Electronic Devices: (laptop, Ipad, Ipod, etc.) 1. Under no circumstances are student devices to be wired to the network or have print capabilities. 2. No flash drives, jump drives, or other USB devices will be allowed. 3. Neither the teacher, nor the school is responsible for broken, stolen, or lost devices.

4. Devices will be used at the individual discretion of the teacher.

Welcome to Biology!

I hope everyone had an awesome break! We have an exciting semester planned in Biology! I am looking forward to getting to know each of your children this semester.

This year, we have NEW Biology textbooks. The textbook and all of the resources that are a part of the book are also offered in an online format. Internet is required to access the textbook/materials. Each student will receive a username and password unique to them to access the materials. You will have two options regarding the textbooks. Please choose your preference below.

______I would like for my child to have BOTH an actual Biology book checked out to them and the online materials. (Textbook will be kept at home. I have a class set. )
