Dinosaur Dance

FRIDAY 5:30

DINOSAUR DANCE  Costumes will be required to be worn to class on Friday, May 20.  This is a details check so be sure to have everything done as explained below before coming to class that day.  Don’t forget to wear your TAN footed tights (no shimmery types and no panty hose) and black jazz shoes, and chosen undergarment (if any) which should be skin tone and totally hidden from view.  Headbands and mitts will be required to be worn to the last three classes before recital: May 20, May 27, and June 10. Important: Immediately double check to see if all pieces as listed below are included in your packet. Your costume package includes:  Leotard  Black stretch sequins  Skirt  Headband and feathers  Mitts  Pop clips

PICTURE DAY: Saturday May 21. DRESS REHEARSAL and RECITAL: Saturday, June 11.

LEOTARD  Check out the leotard during vigorous movement to see if the strap is tight enough. Adjust accordingly.  To make the strap wider, place the black stretch sequins under the existing strap. o Securely sew the sequins in the following three spots: . Top edge of the leotard in front . Top edge of the leotard in back . To the existing strap at the top of the shoulder

SKIRT  Wear the skirt about 1” below the belly button. The shorter side is on the student’s left with the split rotated and centered over the thigh.

 Form a one piece unit buy sewing the waistband of the skirt to the leotard in several different spots all around, knotting of the thread at each point so that the thread won’t pop when taking the costume on and off. (continue to next page)

MITTS Mitts are to be worn from the wrist and extending up past the elbow. Check out the mitts during vigorous movement. If the slip down, tighten accordingly.

HEADDRESS- - -feathers to be worn on the student’s right side  Form the headband by overlapping the strip of matching material to fit the head and securely sewing together. Excess material may be cut away.  Bring the ends of the feather string together to make the piece shorter and puffier. Securely attach to the STUDENT’S right side a little to the side (almost mid-point between the top of the head and the ear as shown below.)

STUDENTS WITH COSTUME CHANGES: Smaller items such as small headdresses and mitts, are easily lost backstage in our crowded conditions.  REQUIRED: Label every article with your name or initials.  A box with compartments that can fit on a chair is a good way to keep track of such items.  Also, it is a good idea to practice costume changes including putting each item back in its place.
