Meeting Minutes Pontiac Club of Iowa September 2011

Date: September 14, 2011 Meeting location: Bennigan’s Restaurant, Des Moines, IA Number of members present: 9

 6:30 - Meeting called to order by President Dave Brown

 Treasurer’s Report

o Scotty Bowman noted the Club had a balance of $964.11.

 Old Business

o None.

 New Business

o Car Show

 Dave Brown and Randy Kroneman met with Jerald at Bob Brown about the show:

 We can start to move cars in on Thursday night between 4 and 9 pm. They estimated about 28 cars would fit in the showroom and the rest would need to be outside as in previous years. It will be “first come-first served” on parking in the showroom. They can be picked up as late a Monday.

 Food will be provided by Bob Brown and has been ordered – brats and brat burgers, chips, and pop.

 Bob Brown will donate $100 for each car sold during the show as they did last year.

 They will pickup $300 toward door prizes. We need to buy them and include the total with our invoice to them.

 They have approximately 30 goodie bags to give out. They include a note pad, small first aid kit, key chain, and a magnet.

 Advertizing for the show will be included in their digital ads – Facebook and website (they have not been doing many print ads recently).

 All cars in the showroom will need to have drip pads (Dave Brown picked up some Pig Mats from NAPA – they will be free to PCI members and $2 for nonmembers).

 Good Vibrations will be providing music for the show. It will be decided on the day of the show if they will be inside or out.

1  Similarly, the location of the registration table will be decided on the day of the show. Possibly outside weather permitting, or just inside the showroom door if raining or hot.

 Dave Brown talked with Andy Snetselarr about possibly bringing a couple of Dennis Albaugh’s cars to the show. Andy will check with Dennis to see.

 Dave Brown and Randy Kroneman delivered the trophies left from last year to Academy Trophies to get new date plaques and to order the Ray Lynch Memorial Award and model car show trophies. They should all be ready for pickup on the 21st. Bob Brown has agreed to pay for the model show trophies and the updates to last year’s car show trophies.

 Lonnie Payne of Bennigan’s agreed to send out an electronic version of the show flyer to his cruise night distribution list.

 Dave Brown contacted representatives of the Buick, Olds, Ford, and Cadillac clubs to invite them to the show. If anyone has a contact with the Chevy or Mopar guys, or any other clubs, please remind them of the show.

o Dave Brown met with Mike Elam of Continental Western Insurance. They are planning to revive the Motor Ioway event. Historically, this was a group tour that starts in Iowa and goes for 7 days on a pre-set route. They are planning to have the route finish at their headquarters with a car show. Continental Western also pledged $200 to our show to sponsor a trophy. It was decided it would be the Best of Show award. Mike Elam is a Pontiac guy who is between Firebirds right now and is interested in joining the Club. Thanks to Brian Mook for setting up the meeting.

 Misc.

o Update on Norm Zimmerman’s 2+2 convertible. The 421 is up and running and the brakes overhauled and the lines flushed. He has ordered Diamond Back radials with the correct white walls and got the headlights changed (not as easy as you might think!). Norm hopes to have it at the show.

 Mechanic Tricks

o One of the lessons learned from Norm’s 421 is the timing marks on earlier Pontiacs consisted only of 2 marks on the harmonic balancer and a single pointer (no scale with the degrees marked on it). You need to be sure you are timing to the right marks and remember to unhook and plug the vacuum advance.

 Cruise Nights

o Wednesday: Bennigan’s is continuing their Wednesday car nights through the end of September, weather permitting. Music provided by Good Vibrations.

2  Upcoming Events

o Henry Gregor Felsen Tribute Festival – Car and Bike Showcase – Val Air Ballroom, Des Moines – September 17 th o 7 Annual PCI/Alzheimer’s Association Classic and Custom Car Show – Bob Brown (Pontiac) Buick GMC, Ankeny, IA – September 24

o Cruise to the Woods – October 2

o Covered Bridge Festival Car Show – October 9

 Meeting adjourned to the parking lot at approximately 7:10

 Next regular meeting: October 12, 2011
