Competition Rules & Regulations for Season 2016 – 2017

Teams agree to the following by registering your team to the Albany Basketball Association:

Nomination:  Online registration forms must be completed and all monies paid on registration night or your team will not be included in this years season.  Nomination fees are $110 per junior player and $140 per senior player (see also ENTRY FEES).  If a Junior player is ALSO playing in a senior grade then only the senior fees apply to that player. So the total cost to that player for playing in both a Junior and Senior team is $140. This fee is to be paid with either of your team nominations (preferably senior where possible).  If a junior player is ONLY playing in a seniors team then the seniors player fee of $130 applies to that player. Entry Fees:  All entry fees for the season are due with your registration fees.  All teams will be charged for entry fees based on a 15 week season at $30 per team, per game. Making a total entry fee of $450 per team  Senior A Grade teams will be charged based on a 17 week season at $30 per team, per game. Making a total entry fee of $480 per team  Finals games will incur additional fees. Game Ball Sizes:  Year 4 Competition – see Special Rules on page 2  All Girls/Womens competitions – Size 6  Primary Grade (Yr 5&6) & Lower High (Yr 7&8) Boys – Size 6  All other Boys/Mens competitions – Size 7 Uniforms:  All teams must in the same uniform. NO boardshorts, NO Football Shorts, NO shorts with pockets or belts. ALL shorts must be basketball shorts for example: airflows and all team members must have the same style for example; no white stripes down sides of shorts unless whole team has shorts like that.  Numbers are to be visible on shirts/tops on both the front & back. If you are purchasing new uniforms please keep numbers between 4-15.  No NEW uniforms are to be purchased for the season without approval of your team colours from the ABA (which will happen after team nominations have been received or you can apply for early approval from [email protected] ). If you do then you run the risk of clashing with an existing team and not being able to use your uniforms.  Teams must be in correct uniform by the third playing week, unless notice has been given ie order delivery running late. Mouthguards:  Are compulsory for ALL Junior players – if you are under 18 then this means YOU! Scoring:  Each team must supply a competent scorer for each game. Raiders Players:  Please be aware that due to the new grades this season it is possible that your regular team and your Raiders team could end up in the same grade and therefore play each other. Preference as to which team you play for will be up for discussion by your regular coach and your Raiders coach, but the outcome will be such that there will be NO forfeits for this situation.  If you are an U16 or U18 Raiders player AND in year 10 or 11 in 2015 THIS SEASON - you may choose to only play in a Raiders team for the season – please be aware that nomination fees will apply in this situation. Technical Foul:  Any PLAYER or COACH given two technical or unsportsman-like fouls (including a combination of 1 of each foul) in one game will warrant an automatic One week suspension from playing or coaching for the remainder of the round PLUS the entire next round Swearing:  Audible swearing or abuse towards any Referee or Player will result in a technical foul.

ABA Competition Rules 2016-17 Page 1/2 Jewellery:  No Jewellery is to be worn during any game unless given permission to tape by an ABA committee member. Finger nails must also be cut short. Long hair must be tied back. Forfeits & Reschedules:  ALL UN-NOTIFIED FORFEITS WILL RESULT IN A $60 FINE. To avoid the fine you must notify us at least 48hrs before your game. All fines must be paid by the next playing date, otherwise you will not be able to take the court. The fine covers costs incurred to the ABA.  A Maximum of two forfeits notified or un-notified will be accepted, the third forfeit WILL result in the team possibly being removed from the competition.

Game Points:  Win = 3 points, Loss = 1 point, Draw = 2 points, Bye = 3 Points and Forfeit = -3 Points and the score will be awarded to the non-forfeiting team 20-0  An Un-notified forfiet will be at the loss of 3 points, where a notified forfeit (before 48hours) will be recorded as a loss.  If a team is running late for a game, the opposing team which is present on court will receive 1 shot per minute or part there-of until the team takes the court. Game Times:  One 20 Minute Half followed by one 25 Minute Half, with a 5 minute half time. Games will not commence until both teams have provided a scorer. Special Rules:  Year 4 Competition  No finals series will take place for the Year 4 Boys & Girls competitions, a Scored Round Robin and presentation will be held at the end of the season instead.  Games will be played with a Size 5 ball and backboards will be at full height for the entire season.  All Field Goals will score 2 points, the 3 point line is not recognised in this competition  Compulsory - all defence is to be man to man – and must be played from the back court (halfway)  Free Throws are to be taken from the front inside circle  There will be no scoreboard scoring of games at this age group – game will only be scored on paper.

 Zone Defence  Zone defence is NOT allowed in Year 4, Primary (Yr5&6) & Lower High (Yr7&8).  The Upper High Grade (Yr 9,10&11’s) is allowed to play zone defence in the 2nd Half of the game only  Senior Grades may use it for the entire game.

Competition Grading:  All teams may be re-graded for the betterment of the competition and player development. The ABA reserves the right to make and or suggest any changes, that they believe will be to the betterment of the competition.  When creating your teams please be aware that if you make an obviously strong team you will be re- graded (which will affect any players wanting to play Raiders) or told to re-create your team. This will be to the discretion of the ABA.

A Grade Only:  Please be aware that 2 rounds of fixtures happen in late January 2016, before the start of School Term 1, please ensure that you have a team available for these dates.

Other:  Teams may have a MAXIMUM of 12 players and a MINIMUM OF 7 PLAYERS nominated for their team – please be aware that only 10 PLAYERS may take the court and be on the score sheet for every game, ie. 2 people will not be able to play each week (it can be different people that miss out each week).  On Trial for this season: Squad teams are allowed in the Upper High grades – permitting players to swap between divisions. These teams are to be school or club based. For the full rules on these teams allowances please contact us at [email protected] as they are very strict and extensive.  The Referee Mentors on the night will be wearing a coloured vest and any concerns about refering should be reported to him or her as soon as possible.  The word of a Committee Member and/or Referee Mentor is final and their direction should be followed whenever applicable.  Should you wish to make a complaint for any reason, please do so in writing, forms are available from the basketball office on game nights.
