Elderton Elementary PTA February 2, 2014 Minutes

*President called meeting to order at 6:34 pm *Secretary’s report— January 13, 2014 meeting minutes approved. Motion made by Gwen Daquilante and seconded by Nicole Moran. *Treasurer’s report— Motion to approve made by Carolyn Warr and seconded by Nikki Kunkle.

*Mr. Serrao was not at the meeting, but had said that Life Touch will be coming in the spring. Life Touch gives the school $3 per student photographed regardless of whether they purchase any portraits and they also take the aerial photo of the kids in the front of the school that is hanging in the lobby. The money is used to purchase the student agenda books for 3rd – 6th grade. He also provided the PTA with a schedule of the PSSA dates so we do not schedule anything during testing dates. The book swap does overlap on these dates. Gwen and Nicole will check to make sure these dates are still good or if they need to change the dates. *Heather Sitosky and Erin Elkin will plan the 6th grade picnic. Approved at least $100.00, but they can go over if needed since their field trip will not cost as much as last year’s field trip. *Nikki Kunkle reported that the art teacher is working with the 6th graders on a cover for the yearbook. *Christina Shrecongost has received $1,796 for yearbook ads. Parent ads are due on Friday. *Nicole Moran will be chair of the 3rd grade field trip as Christina asked to step down from that position. *Field Trip Updates Kindergarten is now thinking about going to the Science Center. There is no date. Still in need of more kindergarten parents with clearances. Will ask other parents with clearances to be chaperones if needed. 1st and 2nd grade is going to the zoo on May 16th. Buses have been reserved. 3rd and 4th are going to Camp Lutherlynn on May 21. Buses will leave the school at 7:45 a.m. and return at 3:00 p.m. Cost is $821. 12 adults are free – 5 teachers will be going and 7 parents. 2 buses have been booked. 5th grade is going to Lincoln Caverns on May 27. Will explore 2 caves and pan for gems. $375 for admission of students and 6 teachers. Cost for parent chaperones will be $11. $766 total with buses. An employee from Lincoln Caverns will come to the school on May 20 to talk to the 5th graders about the field trip. Not sure on the time leaving the school, Marcy will see if they will leave before school hours to allow the kids more time at the location. Motion to approve expenses made by Carolun Warr and seconded by Rhonda Cornman. All in favor. 6th grade is going to Idlewild May 22. $645 for students and $375 for a bus for a total of $1,020. 6 chaperones are included in the price.
