Have all required materials. 2. Respect the teacher, the classroom, and all fellow classmates. Support a positive classroom community by being respectful in tone, language, and mannerisms. Abide by all school rules and policies. 3. Stay in your assigned seat and do not loiter in my room or my doorway Use your break, lunch, and class changes to handle personal business. Be responsible for your learning Participate in class discussions and have good attendance. Complete notes and assignments on time. Check class minutes, web site, and calendar routinely.
Consequences: 1st warning and documentation 2nd break detention (9:09 -9:29) 3rd call/email to parent **Standing room only for those who can’t stay awake or focused **Implementation of the school’s electronic device policy **Disciplinary referral to the office for significant and blatant disregard for others’ safety and respect
Behavior Modification Assignment: Assigned at the discretion of the teacher and due at 7:25 am the following morning.
Rewards: bonus points, a higher retention rate of learned information, preferred seating
Classroom Procedures: Check the basket for handouts. Obtain a classroom textbook. Sit in your assigned seat. Read and complete the day’s bell work. Preview the day’s scheduled lesson. Follow directions.
Make-Up Work: Students have one day for every day they are absent to make up assignments. Alternative assignments may be given on an as-needed basis. Those absent for skipping will not be allowed to make up missed assignments/tests/quizzes. YOU are responsible for scheduling make up tests and quizzes with me the first day you return.
Attendance & Tardies: Regular attendance provides students with the best opportunity for success in class and establishes good habits for a future career. Because much of the learning takes place in the classroom from lecture, discussions, and activities, part of your grade comes from participation. Upon your return, retrieve any handouts from the absentee folder. Class instruction will start promptly when the tardy bell chimes. If you are not in my classroom, ready to learn, when the final bell chimes, you are tardy. Unless you have an admit slip, go to the office and obtain a tardy slip.
Notebook: Students will maintain an organized notebook with completed notes and assignments.
Tests and Quizzes: Class review only the original day of the assessment. Submit answer sheets in the blue bin labeled with your block number. Evaluation/Performance Expectations/Grades: Every effort will be made to keep the students up- to-date on their progress in class. A midterm progress report will be sent home the fifth week of each term. Graded material and missing assignments may be reviewed before or after school. Grades are updated weekly on ParentPortal. Contact the office for your unique student and parent access codes.
20% 9week Exam 30% Tests 20% Quizzes 20% Classwork 10% Homework
Late Work: Students will receive half credit on any late assignment. Half credit is better than none, I promise.
Test Retakes: Students may retake any test, before or after school, if they want to attempt to improve their original score. The test must be taken within two weeks of the ORIGINAL test date. The highest a student can receive on a retake is a 75.
Extra Credit: Students will be offered the opportunity for extra credit throughout the semester, both on tests and through additional assignments. One quiz grade before and one quiz grade after the progress report date will be offered for two boxes of facial tissue.
Moving Around/Leaving the Classroom: You must ask permission. How? Raise your hand and wait for me to acknowledge you. Do not ask during a classroom discussion, quiz, or test unless it is an EMERGENCY. You may only visit the restroom by using Mrs. Parnell’s Restroom Ruler. OBHS has a 10 minute policy: no passes the first and the last 10 minutes of class.
Break/Lunch Time: D hall has 1st Break from 9:09-9:18 and Quistor Voices (QV) from 9:20-9:29. You may NOT take both breaks. Failure to return after break will result in a write-up for skipping. The tardy bell for first break is at 9:22; if you return after 9:22, you must go get a tardy slip. D hall has 2nd lunch from 11:42-12:05. You may not leave before the dismissal time, and you must be back in my classroom and in your seat before the tardy bell rings at 12:10. DO NOT linger in the halls. Failure to return from lunch on time will result in a tardy.
Class Dismissal: The TEACHER dismisses you…NOT the bell! I can…and will…delay dismissal if I must. ALL classroom learning materials must be packed up and areas cleaned BEFORE anyone will be dismissed. This includes trash disposal. **Various other school procedures will be covered as needed.

I have read the Classroom Guidelines, Procedures, and Ground Rules for Mrs. Parnell’s social studies class and will keep a copy in the front of my social studies notebook. I understand these policies and will comply with them throughout this school year. I also realize they are for the benefit of the classroom community and may be altered as Mrs. Parnell deems necessary. It is my understanding that failure to comply with these policies will directly result in consequences and may affect my grade in this class.
