Mu Alpha Theta Membership

Mill Creek Mu Alpha Theta Membership Information for New and Returning Members 2016-17 Purpose: To promote scholarship in mathematics and service to the community. The Mill Creek chapter of Mu Alpha Theta is part of the National Math Honor Society.

Dues: $25.00 per year due by September 30 for new members and $15 for returning members.

Eligibility Requirements ~ Grade Level – Fifth semester or more of high school math, meaning pre-calculus and up.

~ Grades – The student must have a grade of at least 85 in each gifted or honors mathematics course and/or a grade of 90 in each academic college prep math course and be currently enrolled in or completed Pre-Calculus, Calculus AB, BC or AP Statistics. The student is responsible for verifying grades with a sponsor at the end of each semester. A copy of the report card may be used for this purpose. SENIORS: YOU MUST BE EARNING AT LEAST AN 80 IN YOUR SECOND SEMESTER MATH CLASS AT CHORD DISTRIBUTION OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO RECEIVE ONE.

~ Service – All members: At least Twenty hours with a minimum of 10 being math activity hours (doing something that promotes math or the math department at Mill Creek, like tutoring or math team) are required.

* Seniors must complete all hours by the April meeting to be eligible for an honors chord at graduation.

~ Attendance at meetings – In order to maintain membership in Mu Alpha Theta, members may have no more than ONE absence (excused or unexcused) per school year. Your membership will be terminated otherwise. Please plan so that conflicts with other activities do not result in ineligibility. Be sure to reserve one of your absences for possible year-end “emergencies.” If you have some extenuating circumstances, see me as soon as possible. Before and after- school meetings usually run from 10 to 15 minutes, although some meetings can run longer. (see back for meeting dates). To receive attendance credit, be sure to follow attendance procedures at the meeting.

Transportation: All students are responsible for their own transportation to and from meetings as well as all activities they choose as service opportunities. If you wish to be considered as an active member for the 2016-2017 school year, please bring a copy of your report card to Dr. Hancock by August 15th and fill out the google form link. Mu Alpha Theta 2015-16 Application will be on a google form. Please fill it out and bring a copy of your last report card to Dr. Hancock for grade verification in B212 by August 15th.

MEETINGS ARE HELD IN B212. YOU MAY ATTEND AT 6:45AM OR 2:20PM. PLEASE BE PROMPT.

Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of every month.
