Mentalization-Based Treatment – Fostering (MBT) 29th & 30th September, 2016 9th December, 2016

The Anna Freud Centre will present MBT – Fostering at the Bessborough Centre. Tutors – Alistair Cooper & Sheila Redfern.

At the Anna Freud Centre in London they have developed a new Learning – approach to working with children and young people in foster care  (called MBT fostering) to support their emotional wellbeing more Application of MBT to effectively. MBT-Fostering aims to promote the quality of relationships, foster children support effective and sensitive foster care and assist carers to help the  Understanding Reflective child in their care understand and manage emotions better. The focus practice is on improving the core components of secure attachment, including  Understanding Reflective collaboration, and parental (or carer) reflective capacity. The MBT- capacity fostering approach pays particular attention to developing reflective practice for those professionals working with this population.

Course Overview

This course is suitable to those professionals with an interest in or who are working with foster children and their caregivers. Professionals interested in learning a new method of understanding and working with children and their families, especially children in foster care.

Aim of course – to introduce a mentalizing stance to fostering social workers and those working with children and families in order to help stabilize placements and help manage the emotional and behavioural difficulties of children in care. To support social workers and other professionals in their observations of the parent-child/young person relationship and to identify where there is a break down in mentalizing and how this impacts on the emotional well-being and behavior of the young person.
