Class/Team Rules 2015-2016

1. Off-season class tryouts will be held from November 1st through December 2nd. Athletes will be judged on technical skills, tactical knowledge, speed, agility, fitness, effort, and attitude. All athletes will be given equal consideration. At the completion of the off-season class tryouts, athletes who demonstrate the desired level of performance will be placed in the off-season class (5th /10th period) either second semester or the following year. Placement in the class DOES NOT guarantee placement on one of the teams. We will have many athletes coming from cross country, volleyball, basketball, and other sports, who will attend the tryouts in November. Their attendance at tryouts will likely impact which athletes are placed on the team rosters.

1. Athletes in the 5th /10th period class are expected to be dressed out and ready to begin their workout no later than five minutes after the study hall ends and they make it to the dressing room of the 5th /10th period. Athletes who are late to class may be required to perform extra fitness if the coach determines the need to do so. Athletes are expected to wear soccer appropriate shirts, shorts, and clothing that is weather-appropriate. Additionally, athletes must have running shoes, cleats, and shin guards at EVERY practice.

1. Athletes who know they are going to miss class need to inform the coach the day before the absence. If the athlete becomes ill, or for whatever reason is unable to report their absence the prior day, she must call me at 713-208-2140 or email a message at [email protected] explaining the absence. All absences must be cleared through the attendance office as prescribed by the Student Code of Conduct. Whether an athlete plays in a match will be determined by the coach’s discretion and/or any medical limitations that have been placed on the athlete. Athletes should expect to “make- up” any fitness that is missed if they are absent from class/practice once they return to school.

1. Athletes are expected to attend class/practice everyday.

1. All injuries must be reported to the coach no matter when they occur. Athletes will report to the athletic trainer for treatment on the next available school day. The athletic trainer or doctor will decide what restrictions may be necessary in order to treat the athlete back to health. If a doctor restricts play, a release form must be obtained from that doctor before the athlete may resume participation. Any athlete who is unable to play is expected to attend all practices and dress out for games.

1. Any equipment issued to the athlete, i.e. jersey, shorts, etc., is expected to be well maintained. Any lost, stolen, or damaged equipment will be replaced at the athlete’s expense. Each athlete will be issued a locker in which they can secure their equipment.

1. If an athlete is assigned a Detention Hall or Saturday Class, or if any other disciplinary sanction is placed on her by the school, she is expected to inform the coach of the sanction ON THE DAY it is assigned.

1. Body piercings may not be worn during practices or games. Athletes are permitted to have their ears pierced, however all other piercings prohibited by the Student Code of Conduct are not to be worn at school or at school functions. Jewelry is not allowed during practice or games.

1. The use of drugs, including alcohol, by any athlete will be handled according to NCISD policy and/or precedents set by the school, coach, and district. Please refer to the New Caney ISD Student Athletic Policies if further information is needed. Recent legislation passed in the Texas State Legislature may require athletes to be randomly tested for drugs. The use of drugs by an athlete can lead to the athlete being removed from the athletic program and forfeiture of earning a letter and any season recognitions (i.e. all-district, region, state, etc.) in the athletes sport.

1. According to UIL policy, athletes must be passing all courses in order to participate in athletic contests. Additionally, athletes are expected to set and maintain high academic standards that will bring credit to themselves, their parents, the school, and the soccer program. Athletes are expected to sit in the front of their classes and are to set a positive example for other Porter students to follow.

1. Each athlete must understand that participating in the athletic program at Porter High School is a privilege and that it is an honor to be part of the program. Athletes are expected to maintain a high level of behavior at all times in the community, in the classroom, and on the playing field. Any behavior that the coach deems as being unacceptable, including SAC, may result in the athlete being required to perform extra fitness exercises, restricted playing time, and suspension or removal from the program. Also, any athlete that fails one or multiple classes throughout each 9-week grading period may be removed from the program at the end of each 3-week grading period, at the end of the 9-week grading period, at semester or the end of the school year.
