LEONA CRAIG PHILLIPS, OF 12 LEXINGTON COUNTY, ON THE OCCASION OF HER ONE 13 HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER A JOYOUS 14 BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION AND CONTINUED HEALTH 15 AND HAPPINESS. 16 17 Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of 18 Representatives are delighted to learn that Mrs. Leona Craig 19 Phillips will celebrate her one hundredth birthday on January 21, 20 2009; and 21 22 Whereas, Mrs. Phillips was born on January 21, 1909, just a few 23 years after the dawn of the twentieth century, and she has been 24 witness to nearly all the incredible changes and developments that 25 have come to this nation from that time into the twentyfirst 26 century; and 27 28 Whereas, the daughter of William and Lelia Craig, she spent her 29 growing-up years in Charlotte, North Carolina, and wed the late 30 Robert Phillips in 1944. Leona and Robert were married fortyfive 31 years and lovingly parented two children, Lamarr Phillips and 32 CoNette Phillips Fidler. Over the years, the couple was also 33 blessed with two grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren; and 34 35 Whereas, formerly an avid gardener with full vegetable and flower 36 plots, Mrs. Phillips is especially fond of pink roses. She remains a 37 strong Tarheel basketball fan and has a great sense of humor; and 38 39 Whereas, in her present hometown of Columbia, Mrs. Phillips is a 40 member of McGregor Presbyterian Church. She loves God, her 41 church, her family and friends, and in turn those who know her call 42 her “the sunshine of their lives”; and

[3273] 2 1 2 Whereas, in recognition of her one hundredth birthday, Mrs. 3 Phillips’ family and friends will host a celebratory gathering on 4 January 24, 2009, at National Health Care; and 5 6 Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to honor this truly 7 lovely lady at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday and 8 joins with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching 9 this extraordinary milestone. Now, therefore, 10 11 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives: 12 13 That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, 14 by this resolution, congratulate Mrs. Leona Craig Phillips, of 15 Lexington County, on the occasion of her one hundredth birthday, 16 and wish her a joyous birthday celebration and continued health 17 and happiness. 18 19 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to 20 Mrs. Phillips. 21 XX 22
