1.Showbie App for iPad

This app is ideal for teachers who want to use the iPad to set work, collect it in and mark it.

Where to get it Download Showbie from the iTunes app store or from the Showbie Website

Showbie is free to sign up for and allows up to 35 students and 100 active assignments per teacher. It is also possible to request a School (Pro) account with unlimited assignments, 100 students, larger file sizes and account management.

What does Showbie do? This app enables a teacher to create a virtual classroom, for example 'Year 6 Literacy' in order to share work assignments. Each virtual classroom lists the assignments that have been allocated and lists the students who are currently taking that assignment. Students can upload work from virtually any iPad app and teachers can see when a student has submitted work. It can be marked within Showbie using features such as a text note, voice note or annotations. It is also an ideal way to share resources for class use too, as there is a folder for the whole class where files can be uploaded for everyone to see. Because the app contains everything relating to that classroom in one place, the teacher doesn't have lots of emails to deal with.

User example This is used across the school at Essa Academy where each child and teacher has an iPad and learning is delivered using LCD TV's and Apple TV linked into the iPad. They have replaced their Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in part with this app and their photocopying bill has reduced substantially as sharing work electronically cuts down on the photocopying required.

RNIB – supporting blind and partially sighted people Registered charity number 226227 Accessibility Please note, we are not suggesting that Showbie is an accessible product. At present, there are known accessibility issues in Showbie for users of VoiceOver speech and only certain parts of the application support the full Zoom magnification. However this application will be useable by a number of students who are partially sighted using the 'pinch to zoom' feature.

If you experience any issues with this app, then please let us know. We are collecting comments to send back to the developers of this app, to encourage them to improve the accessibility.
