Scleroderma Specifics:

Don’t self- prescribes. ND’s check interactions with medications!!!  Vitamin D: often low in scleroderma, autoimmunity and MB.  Vitamin E supplementation resulted in improvements in the skin of scleroderma patients, including morphea, calcinosis cutis, and Raynaud’s phenomenon.  Zinc improves Morphea: 17 patients (mean age, 50.3 years; range, 20-77 years) with histologically confirmed morphea (localized scleroderma) for more than 1 year that had failed to respond to at least 3 months of treatment with a high-potency topical glucocorticoid were treated with 60-90 mg/day of zinc (as zinc gluconate). 4 patients had a complete remission (after an average of 11.3 months) and 5 other patients improved (after an average of 14.4 months), for an efficacy rate of 53%.
