Invitation to submit papers for Issues in Science and Theology: Are We Special? and for Studies in Science and Theology (SSTh) Volume 16

Contributions are invited for the two books that will be published following the XVIth European Conference on Science and Theology in Lodz – Warsaw, 26 April – 1 May 2016. The conference volume ‘Issues in Science and Theology: Are We Special? Science and Theology Questioning Human Uniqueness’ will be published by Springer and will contain the plenary papers from the conference and a selection of short papers. Further short papers will be published in Studies in Science and Theology, the Yearbook of the European Society for the Study of Science and Theology, volume 16. All those whose papers were accepted for presentation at the conference, and any other ESSSAT members, are invited to submit manuscripts for publication.

The deadline for submission is MONDAY, 5 SEPTEMBER 2106.

All papers will be peer reviewed. The editorial board, assisted by the advisory board, will select the papers for publication. Authors will be notified of the board’s decisions by December 2016.

Authors are requested to use the following GUIDELINES:

Content All submissions should be written in English. Authors are responsible for the correctness of the English. We do not have the capacity to translate papers. Your full paper should contain:  Title and Subtitle  Name of author  Abstract (150-200 words)  Keywords (10-15)  Full text  References  A short CV (current academic position – research topics – recent publications) Articles should not be longer than 6000-7000 words in total (text + references and footnotes). Please use inclusive language throughout. Articles must not have been published previously, either on paper or the Internet.

References For references use the Harvard system. Please follow these guidelines as closely as possible! Simple references are made in the main text. Limited use of footnotes is acceptable, but these should be avoided if at all possible. References should be made in the text according to the examples below, the first figure being the year separated only by space from the author’s last name, the second figure being the page no. separated by a colon: “… (Kull 204: 77)” or, when the name of the author is part of the text: “… as indicated by Harrison (2007a: 45)”. With the same author and different years, the years are separated by a semicolon: “(Kull 2004; 2006)”. With two authors, put “and” between the authors’ names: “(Peacocke and Pederson 2006: 102– 104)”. The same applies when the authors’ names appear as part of the text: “as Peacocke and Pederson (2006: 104) stated …” Name and year refer to a list of references at the end of the article. Examples:

Harrison, P. 2007a. The Fall of Man and the Foundations of Science, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. Harrison, P. 2007b. „Was There a Scientific Revolution?”, European Review 15, 445–457. Kull, A. 2004. “A Cyborg Theology. A Blasphemy or a Necessity?”, in U. Görman, W.B. Drees & H. Meisinger (eds.), Studies in Science and Theology, vol. 9, Lund: University of Lund, 71–82. Peacocke, A. 2000. “Science and the Future of Theology: Critical Issues”, Zygon. Journal of Religion and Science 35, 119–140. Peacocke, A., and A. Pederson. 2006. The Music of Creation, with CD, Theology and the Sciences, Minneapolis: Augsburg Fortress.

The following principles apply: Use italics for the titles of books, journals and newspapers. Use “quotation marks” for the titles of articles and essays. Please note the punctuation and the position of the year of publication! If there are works by the same author, published in the same year, use the letters a, b, c ... after the publication date to distinguish between them. If you refer to a website, please be as precise as possible in citing it and add the date of your access, i.e. [Accessed 14 February 2016]. Always supply the range of an essay by giving the first and the last page.

Format Articles should be delivered in a computer-readable form. For preference, please use Microsoft Word. Submissions should be sent as e-mail attachments. No paper copies are needed. Please use only basic formatting in your word processor, as final formatting will be done by the editors. Mark out headings, preferably using the MS-Word header styles. All emphases are with italics only (no bold fonts or underlining). Footnotes may be used by utilising the footnote function in your word processor, but as stated above, please keep these to a minimum.

If you want illustrations to be printed, attach them as extra files to your text and use as good a reproduction as possible. Please note that only black and white images can be reproduced. You are responsible for ensuring that there is no copyright violation with regard to illustrations or graphics. For foreign language character and mathematical symbols, please use Unicode characters if possible.

Submission Please send your submission as e-mail attachment to the ESSSAT Vice-President for Publications, Michael Fuller: [email protected].

Any questions should be sent to him at this email-address.
