St. Matthias the Apostle

May 9, 2017, Parish Council Meeting Members present: Fr. Chris, Fr. John, Dick Neyer, Chris Shands, Doug Keil, Judie Mohr, Theresa Snyder, Joyce Fuller & Kathleen Holt, secretary

Review of February minutes:  Motion to approve: Judie Mohr. Second: Doug Keil.

Pastor’s Comments and Updates: Fr. Chris 1Faith, 1Hope, 1Love/Finance Discussion  No change in this fund. Miscellaneous Updates:  Fr. Lambert to be reassigned to our region for THREE more years. WWPR Updates:  St. James church restroom project is complete.  Walt Hucke will be leaving the staff at the end of June for health reasons but will remain deacon. Dave Nissen will be stepping into some of Walt’s evangelization roles.  The Alpha pilot program has a very good St. Matthias showing. St. Matthias Updates:  St. Matthias is doing well, financially stable.  Archbishop Schnurr will be here to celebrate the 50th year anniversary Mass.  It was stressed to parish council and Fr. John that the Ghanaian community be invited/included in the anniversary liturgy and celebration.

Ghanaian Community Update: Fr. John  Registrations have been completed so all members can use envelopes. There are now 15 families registered.  The entire collection is now going straight to St. Matthias.  Discussion about the music equipment in the back room. Fr. John is still working on this.  Fr. John is now taking on the responsibility of the facility closing routine.

Report on Finance Committee Meeting: Fr. Chris  Expenses are under control.  Finance Council and Fr. Chris are firm on the decision to spend capital improvement money on the worship space. New flooring, etc. Hopefully this project can be completed by Advent.  The door of the rectory will be repaired or replaced. Getting estimates now.  Tractor discussion back-up continues and we will also look into possible purchase of used equipment.  Discussed other landscape options.

CMA Results: Kathleen Holt  2017 Goal: $9,059.00; Amt. Pledged to Date: $13,410.00; Amt. Paid to Date: $10,580.00; % of Goal: 148.03 %; % of Participation: 16.09%; Last Year Pledge: $17,315.00.

Potential Capital Improvement Projects: See Report on Finance Committee above.

Final 2017 Fish Fry Report: Dick Neyer  Attachments included.  Expenses went up so there might be a need to raise prices next year.  $8811.00 is the net profit.  Fr. Chris commended Dick Neyer and the entire Fish Fry crew.

Discussion on the 50th Anniversary of St. Matthias: Judie Mohr  St. Matthias feast day (May 14) falls on Mother’s Day Sunday so it was suggested to have a coffee after the 9 am Mass on Sunday, May 21.  The 50th anniversary will be celebrated on Sunday, August 6 with Mass and brunch.  Judie is looking at 4 caterers. Fr. Chris invited Bishop Binzer who could not attend, however Archbishop Schnurr can attend and will celebrate the anniversary Mass.

Parish Council Elections: Judie Mohr  Judie is actively searching for candidates and would like the elections to happen by the end of June.  Doug Keil is looking into exactly whose term is expired.

Directory Status: Kathleen Holt  The directory process is well under way and St. Matthias has furnished the most volunteers for this project.

New Business:  Fr. Lambert’s suggestion for a monthly social was discussed with the staff looking into using this as a Stewardship Fare project during the year.  Fr. Chris brought up the subject of purchasing a large, flat screen television system for Lonsway Hall. He is getting estimates and would love to have this purchased and installed by the August 6 anniversary.
