ELA II Honors SPRING 2016

SSR Group Presentation

Each SSR group will have the opportunity to share their selected book throughout the first week of April. During this presentation, you and your group members will be assessed on your public speaking skills and your knowledge of the book. Each group member should fulfill a different role and present his or her part to the class.

Your presentation must include the following:  a hook  a brief summary (no spoilers!)  a brief biography of the author  an analysis of literary elements (ex: foreshadowing, conflict, irony, etc.)  connections to other books, movies, or life  connections to class (texts read in ELA I or ELA II)  a discussion of literary criticism/book reviews (at least one outside source-with citation!)  themes, motifs, and symbols  a meaningful passage from your book (could be connected to another area- ex: theme)  a conclusion  a visual (a power-point, prezi, clips from movie/TV show, etc.) *Sent 1 day in advance!

Guidelines & Requirements  Presentations will be scheduled throughout the first week of April  Presentation dates are as follows: o April 5th: Curious Incident, The Hobbit, Dorian o April 6th: Frankenstein, Cyrano  Please see me if you know you will be absent on your presentation date. Presentations will occur whether all group members are present or not.  Your presentation should be 20-25 minutes in length. This includes any media you may choose to incorporate; however, media must not exceed three minutes.  Plan ahead with your group members. First, determine who will be responsible for each part of the presentation. Next, figure out how and when to do this project. Will you communicate through Edmodo? Share your power-point through Google Docs? Meet in the library during directed study? You will have 1 full class period to work on this; however, the rest of the work should be completed on your own. My room, H-202, is open for group meetings before/after school and during 3B or 3C. If you want to meet here, please let me know.  In the event that a group member is absent, the Internet is not working, or any other possible situation that may arise on your presentation date, the visual that you will use must be sent to Mrs. Rapone at least one day in advance. (My email address is [email protected].) If your group is unable to send this 1 day before your presentation date, your group will earn a zero for your visual.  Become familiar with the assignment rubric. Part of your grade is based on your public speaking skills (volume, clarity, eye contact, etc.). The other part of your grade is based on the information you share with us. In order to earn the best possible score, please spend some time reviewing the rubric.  If you are absent (excused absence) and you are unable to participate in your group’s presentation, you will have an alternate assignment to complete. If you are absent (unexcused absence) and you are unable to participate in your group’s presentation, you will earn a 0. If you know in advance that you will not be in school on a certain day, do not sign up to present on that day.  Remember, I am happy to help you.
