THEME Hook In: Watch Katie Morag Programmes Theme: Island Life Key learning Engaging activity, Hook Out: Scottish Day (Dress up, food, traditional music, dancing). Content, skills experiences Green Curriculum To learn about the use of oats and barley for porridge ENGLISH To write Katie Morag stories with: Familiar settings Magic shell fantasy story Postcards Tourist leaflets MATHS To plot co-ordinates and use directional language (link to IT programming). To use money to find totals and give change. To choose and use appropriate standards units to measure weights (kg/g).

Science Coastline animals. To name a variety of animals that live by the sea (Yr1). To describe how a specific habitat provides the basic needs for animals living there (Yr2). To explain a simple food chain. Design & Technology To design and make a bird box. I can explain why I have chosen specific textiles (Yr2). I can choose appropriate materials and tools (Yr1). History Seaside in the past – I can identify the differences in old and new holidays. To understand how changes in transport allowed people to visit the seaside. To identify changes / similarities of activities available / souvenirs. Geography To say what you like / don’t like about a different place and the place that I live in (Yr2). To name the 4 countries that make up the UK and locate them on a map (Yr1). To be able to describe some features of an island (Yr2). To explain where I live and can tell someone my address (Yr1). To be able to name the capital cities of the 4 countries within the UK (Yr2). Computing/ICT To plan a journey around an island for a programmable toy. To write a simple programme and test it (Yr2). To use a website (Yr1). To navigate the web to complete simple searches (Yr2). Art & Design To be able to name the primary and secondary colours (Yr1). To create a piece of art in response to another artist (Yr2). Music Sea Shanties To say whether I like or dislike a piece of music (Yr1). To listen out for particular things when listening to music (Yr2). PE To develop fundamental movement skills in dynamic and static balances. To understand that being active is good for us. RE Jesus was special – To be able to retell stories of Jesus. To be able to make a connection between the Bible stories and Christian beliefs about Jesus. To be able to talk about their own feelings and experiences. To ask and respond sensitively to questions about their own and others feelings and experiences. PSHE SEAL: Taking responsibility – for their successes and when things go wrong. Waiting for what they want; persistence (keeping going).
