On January 17, 2005, Peter MacIntyre (Psychology Department) gave an invited talk, organized by the School of English Studies at Nottingham University (UK) entitled “Willingness to Communicate: Motivation and Volition in Second Language Use.” 3. On January 19, 2005, Peter MacIntyre (Psychology Department) gave an invited talk at Birkbeck College, University of London (UK), entitled “Willingness to Communicate in a Second Language: Volitional Processes.” 4. Fourteen major personality theories are reviewed with emphasis on the interrelations among these classic theories and their connection to modern research programs.

A survey course of intermediate statistics including both ANOVA designs (t-tests, oneway, factorial, and split plot) and multivariate statistics (including regression, factor analysis, MANOVA, and causal modelling). This is modelled after a graduate-level statistics course.

A survey of major theories of motivation including deficiency motives, growth motives, and goal-related emotions as motivating agents. Particular emphasis is given to the complementary, layered nature of motives and the difficulty in isolating a single motive for any given behaviour.
Human Sexuality and Sex Education, Psychology 365. University College of Cape Breton, Department of Psychology, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003. A course designed to cover physical, psychological, and social aspects of sexual behaviour. A variety of pedagogical methods were used, including films, guest speakers, group discussion, projects (eg., make a pamphlet, search for web sites, analyse a sexual experience) and student presentations. Emphasis was placed on dispelling myths about sexuality and integrating knowledge of various topics.
