LIBRARY

The Middle School Library serves approximately 850 students, and is networked via the Internet and the Library Catalog. Students will please observe the following rules.

1. Students will be courteous to each other and to the adults present. The concept of courtesy will be defined by the librarians and not the students.

2. Regular library books are circulated for 10 (ten) school days with an overdue charge of $.05 per day. Holidays and days out sick are not counted. Reference Books are circulated for one day only and are $.25 per day late. Magazines and videos do not circulate to students.

3. 5th Period Academic Resource classes are provided with passes for the Library. This is a privilege and not a right. Students may come to the Library only once during a resource period, and must be actively reading or working with library resources. 7th and 8th grade students will sign in and out for ARP in the Library. Homework should not be brought to the Library, unless at the request of the teacher.

4. Talking is to be kept to a minimum, at the level directed by the librarians.

5. Gum is NOT permitted in the Library or computer labs.

6. Internet access is to help the student with research on schoolwork. All District rules apply while using technology in the Library or the Computer Lab. Downloading, filesharing, “surfing,” emailing, or instant messaging is prohibited. Students should come to the Library with websites provided by the teacher to use in searches.

7. Please ASK to use the Internet and Printers. This is a courtesy and helps us keep track of use and paper.

8. Students are not permitted to use the Library or the Computer Lab unless there is an adult responsible for those students in the room.

9. The librarians have the right to revoke library privileges for misbehavior, misuse of library resources or technology, violations of library rules, or repeated silliness. Restrictions of one week, then two weeks, then a month will be the initial steps. Serious infractions will be reported to the Assistant Principal.
