Summary of print coverage in March 2005

Dr Mike Rowe (Criminology) dominated national media coverage with his study on the amount of time police spent on foot patrols- this was the subject of full page reports in the national press and was even cited in Party political speeches. Professor Richard Bonney received widespread international coverage for his conference on Muslims and the media- this was reported by Al Jazeera, BBC and British Satellite News among others

Criminologist Professor Martin Gill also achieved coverage with his research on CCTV and its impact and for a future of policing conference at the Uni.

Particular highlights were coverage in Countryside LaVie of a number of University activities with several pictures of University staff, and there was also a full page in The Engineer focusing on spin-out company Scionix.

The Independent profiled widening participation activities and highlighted the work of Chemistry in reaching out to young children. Lorraine Sheridan (Psychology) was also the subject of a special report for her study on stalking.

Genetics received high profile coverage through a series of full-page features in the Leicester Mercury highlighting particular aspects of the history of DNA fingerprinting.
