Poet / Poetry Research Presentation –

Your mission is to discover and research a world poet, find five –ten of their poems to analyze, present one poem along with information on the poet, and write one CDW on the poem you present and read to the class.

Stage 1: Choose your poet.  Email your poet to Mrs. Armstrong ([email protected])  Be sure to put your name, period, and poet in the subject line.

Stage 2: Research your poet.  You must use three sources. Your sources must be valid, educational sources. When you discover a source and are taking notes, be sure to write the source down. Your sources may be a combination of websites, media, and print  Take notes on your poet. Your notes must be organized and legible.  Be sure to include important information about the poet, their background, where they are from, what motivated their writing, and any other interesting information.  Be sure to write the source down on the same page you are taking the notes

Stage 3: Finding Poems  Read their poetry. You should read between 10 and 20 poems  Find 5 - 10 that resonate with you  Print them, highlight, and comment on them. Be sure to use the same format we have been doing for our in class poems. You will be expected to add all of the poems to your notebook and turn them in.  Choose one poem and complete a CDW on all poetic elements. Stage 4: Create your presentation  You may use PowerPoint, Prezi, Pow Tunes, or any other form of presentation software  You need to have the following information included in your presentation o Introduction o Biographical information o Geographical information about where they are from o The poem that you write your CDW on. (read out loud to the class) o One element of your CDW to share with the class. o What did you learn about the poet’s culture and community through their poetry and your research? o Reflection about your poet and the project o Pictures and transitions o Source Slide  Your presentation must be between 4 & 6 minutes, including reading one of the poems and the above information

Stage 5: Present  You will be given a time and day.

What you will turn in:

1) You notes will be written in and turned in with your poetry notebook 2) Your one write-up and highlighted poems will be turned in with your poetry notebook. 3) 4-9 additional poems highlighted and annotated added to your poetry notebook 4) Your presentation will be presented to the class. 5) Poetry Notebooks must be turned in when you present for check off on your work. Notebooks do not have to be complete, but they must have all of the presentation information in them.

The grade break down:

30 pts Research Notes 10 pts 5 – 10 poems highlighted and annotated in your notebook 50 pts Presentation 10 pts Presenting in front of the class
