The bill, H.R.5585, the “Assuring and Improving Cancer Treatment Education and Cancer Symptom Management Act of 2008,” was introduced on march 11, 2008 in the House of Representatives by Representative Israel and other ONS and cancer community supporters. This ground-breaking legislation extends Medicare reimbursement to include payment for cancer patient treatment education provided by oncology nurses and it also calls for an expansion of research regarding symptom management and oncology nursing interventions through the National Institutes of Health and the Institute of Medicine. To help ensure this bill receives the legislative attention and action it needs and deserves, please take a few minutes to send an email to your Representative asking him/her to become a cosponsor.
