April 17, 2015 MEDIA ALERT: The future of architecture stands in a new exhibit at the Main Library

What: Design LAB Exhibit 2015 Who: Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati When: Saturday, April 25 – May 2, 2015 Where: Main Library, 800 Vine St. (downtown) Why: To present the completed work of an in-classroom design education program tailored to broaden and deepen student awareness, appreciation, and active participation in our built environment.

With the new growth and urbanization in Cincinnati, we know how important the role of architecture plays in our community. Celebrate our built environment with local professionals, students and educators and see their creative architectural models and design ideas about dwellings of all kinds. The Design LAB: Learn And Build Design Fair takes place April 25 – May 2 at the Main Library.

In partnership with the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati, the Library introduces the Design LAB exhibit (former Architecture by Children exhibit), the final piece of an in-classroom design education program tailored to broaden and deepen student awareness, appreciation, and active participation in our built environment. Local professionals teamed up with educators to guide students through a real-world, themed design problem, emphasizing the development of: research and observation, critical-thinking, problem solving, verbal and visual communication, creative expression and presentation skills.

This year’s project theme, ‘DWELLING‘, challenged students to design a place to live for a chosen client that may be contemporary, fictional, historical or otherwise. Students had the opportunity to create a 24″x 24″ three- dimensional model and design process board. Selected projects will be on display in the Atrium.
