The Emperor Penguins have a variety of interesting eating habits that help them survive the barren, frigid, and harsh climate of the Antarctic. Having a variety of foods such as fish, squid and krill is essential to their survival. If there is a shortage of one food source the Emperor Penguins will not starve. They can dive up to
1700 feet and hold their breath for 15 minutes allowing them to be very effective predators. They are near the top of the food chain in the Southern Antarctic Ocean. Surprisingly, males go without food for 115 days incubating the egg while the female returns to sea to feed. In the meantime the males are able to live off their stored body fat. All these unique eating habits help the Emperor
Penguins survive the extreme Antarctic climate.
